″Removing Sporting from title fight is completely premature″

Speech by Portuguese coach Pedro Martins in the mixed zone of the World Scout Congress.

Pedro Martins, the coach who has managed Olympiacos for the last four seasons and left early this season after coaching Maritima, Rio Ave and Vitória de Guimarães, was at the World Scout Congress this Thursday that takes place at the hotel. in Porto, being one of the members of the game time group, along with Armando Evangelista, coach of Arouca, and Thiago Madureira, executive director of the League of Portugal.

In the mixed zone, Pedro Martins started by talking about the difference in mentality between what happens in the Portuguese and Greek championships and the European Games.

Thinking difference: “Greece is worse than Portuguese football. This is a matter of culture. When we go to international games we get into the spirit of putting on good shows and playing good games knowing that there is no defense and management of the games and strategies that players are used to with coaches, there are a few things that change from that and when they give up from their championships, namely the championship of Portugal, which we are talking about, and this is the most important thing, there are significant changes, because this culture has existed for many years.”

Analysis of the championship of Portugal: Benfica hired well, in addition to his coach who was right, he was looking for players with a profile with which he would like to be part of the team, I think they approached the market wisely, Benfica’s structure is fruitful at the moment Braga, Arthur Jorge, is doing an absolutely exceptional job, in the Portuguese Championship and in European competitions, I take my hat off to him, we have data from another coach who can be successful, who has quality and I hope he will do what what he did when he joined Braga two years ago and ended the season on a good note, and once again shows that he is a competent coach. Porto and Sporting still have the right to vote in the championship, Sporting did not start well. Porto have been in very similar situations before, they were in that situation last season and ended up as champions, it’s still very early. At this stage, Benfica and Braga were the most competent.”

Isn’t it premature to withdraw Sporting from a title fight? “Completely. The championship is not yet at the beginning, there is still a lot to be written. I see four teams so far, any of which can become a champion, honestly.”

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro Filipe Cunha, Artistic Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Braga, has been invited to conduct the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, as announced today.

According to a statement sent by O MINHO, “he will be the first Portuguese conductor to conduct this orchestra in its entire history.”

In addition to this orchestra, the maestro will also work with the Lyceo Mozarteum de la Habana Symphony Orchestra.

The concerts will take place on 4 and 12 March 2023 at the National Theater of Cuba in Havana.

In the words of the maestro, quoted in the statement, “these will be very beautiful concerts with difficult but very complex pieces” and therefore he feels “very motivated”.

From the very beginning, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 will be performed by an Italian pianist (Luigi Borzillo), whom the maestro wants to bring to Portugal later this year. In the same concert, Mendelshon’s First Symphony will be performed.

Then, at the second concert, in the company of the Mexican clarinetist Angel Zedillo, he will perform the Louis Sfora Concerto No. 2. In this concert, the maestro also conducts Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony.

“This is an international recognition of my work. An invitation that I accept with humility and great responsibility. I was surprised to learn that I would be the first Portuguese member of the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra. This is a very great honor,” the maestro said in a statement.

“I take with me the name of the city of Braga and Portugal with all the responsibility that goes with it, and I hope to do a good job there, leaving a good image and putting on great concerts. These will be very special concerts because, in addition to performing pieces that I love, especially Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, I will be directing two wonderful soloists who are also my friends. It will be very beautiful,” concludes Filipe Cunha.
