The judge ruled that migrant children in government family detention centers must be released because of a coronavirus

The decision is part of an ongoing effort to free detained immigrants who are particularly vulnerable to the corona virus given the limited arrangements in the facility and potential spread.

In his order, Judge Dolly M. Gee of the US District Court for the Central District of California called for the fast transfer of migrant children who were in one of three family detention centers, which are run by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and are located in Texas and Pennsylvania.

Children must be released with their parents or to “suitable sponsors available or other available COVID-free non-assemblies arrangements” with the consent of their parents or guardians, Judge Gee said.

On June 8, there were 124 children in ICE custody, according to the ruling. The verdict, which calls for children to be released on July 17, applies to children who have lived in all three facilities for more than 20 days.

The effort, Gee wrote, must be carried out with “deliberate speed.”

In all, around 8,858 prisoners tested overall in ICE detainees who had been tested for the corona virus and 751 were tested positive, according to the agency’s statistics on Friday afternoon.

CNN has contacted ICE to comment.

Last month, Democratic lawmakers urged the Trump administration in a letter explaining the reported ICE incident that asked migrant families in detention to choose between living with their children or releasing them.

Immigration lawyers and lawyers share anecdotes about families being held in confusion over their meeting with ICE, describing the meeting between parents and ICE officials about whether their children will remain in custody with parents or handed over to sponsors in the US.

Families held at the three ICE detention facilities – Berks in Pennsylvania, South Texas (Dilley) and the Karnes County Family Residence Center in Texas – share similar stories. Children in the facility range from 1 year to 17 years, according to lawyers and advocates who provide legal assistance.

“Administration must stop using this public health crisis as a means of implementing immigration policies that are illegal and inhumane. In these extraordinary times, human suffering need not be complicated by locking families or instilling fear in the hearts of migrant parents,” read the letter, directed to act Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf and acting Director of Immigration and Customs Matt Mattence.

ICE denies instituting binary options or separating parents from their children “based on ‘binary choices’.”

Method Media Bermuda will present the documentary FABRIC: Portuguese History in Bermuda on Thursday, December 29 at the Underwater Research Institute of Bermuda.

A spokesperson said: “Method Media is proud to bring Bermuda Fabric: Portugal History to Bermuda for its 5th and 6th showing at the Bermuda Underwater Observatory. In November and December 2019, Cloth: A Portuguese Story in Bermuda had four sold-out screenings. Now that Bermuda has reopened after the pandemic, it’s time to bring the film back for at least two screenings.

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro Filipe Cunha, Artistic Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Braga, has been invited to conduct the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, as announced today.

According to a statement sent by O MINHO, “he will be the first Portuguese conductor to conduct this orchestra in its entire history.”

In addition to this orchestra, the maestro will also work with the Lyceo Mozarteum de la Habana Symphony Orchestra.

The concerts will take place on 4 and 12 March 2023 at the National Theater of Cuba in Havana.

In the words of the maestro, quoted in the statement, “these will be very beautiful concerts with difficult but very complex pieces” and therefore he feels “very motivated”.

From the very beginning, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 will be performed by an Italian pianist (Luigi Borzillo), whom the maestro wants to bring to Portugal later this year. In the same concert, Mendelshon’s First Symphony will be performed.

Then, at the second concert, in the company of the Mexican clarinetist Angel Zedillo, he will perform the Louis Sfora Concerto No. 2. In this concert, the maestro also conducts Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony.

“This is an international recognition of my work. An invitation that I accept with humility and great responsibility. I was surprised to learn that I would be the first Portuguese member of the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra. This is a very great honor,” the maestro said in a statement.

“I take with me the name of the city of Braga and Portugal with all the responsibility that goes with it, and I hope to do a good job there, leaving a good image and putting on great concerts. These will be very special concerts because, in addition to performing pieces that I love, especially Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, I will be directing two wonderful soloists who are also my friends. It will be very beautiful,” concludes Filipe Cunha.
