Roger Schmidt comments on Benfica’s lead in the Portuguese Liga – 18.09.2022

The Portuguese club sent an offer to Flamengo for the loan of goalkeeper Hugo Sousa - 08.05.2022

Increasingly, Benfica are becoming more isolated in the lead of the Portuguese league and inflicted another casualty this Sunday (18) with a 5-0 win against Maritimo at the Estadio da Luz stadium in Lisbon. In seven rounds, the Portuguese won seven victories and have a two-point advantage over Braga, which is currently in second place. 13 wins in 13 games all season.

The recent performance put coach Roger Schmidt on good terms with the fans. After leaving PSV from the Netherlands, the German coach took control of Benfica and achieved results that have not been seen in the last two seasons, when the Portuguese Jorge Jesus and Nelson Verissimo took control of the team.

? We showed our fans great football, especially from the middle of the first half, and then in the second, with many chances and good finishes. I am glad that we have finished well this first leg of the season (it will be stopped for international matches), which was very demanding and tiring. Was it good to be able to give our fans a good performance? said Roger Schmidt in an interview with Benfica TV.

Apart from Braga’s advantage, Benfica also notes that they have more points compared to Porto and Sporting CP, their main rivals. In seven rounds they are five points ahead of Porto (3rd with 16 points) and 11th ahead of Sporting CP (8th with 10 points). Despite this, Roger Schmidt only thinks about what his team can produce, not about the competition.

? We think only of ourselves. There are 27 more games ahead, and this is not decisive, although important. We must continue to win our games and play at a good level. Is classification a consequence of what we do? said Schmidt, who finished.

? It’s not for me to talk about the favorites, at the moment we are the first, which is good, but, as I said, there are 27 games ahead. We are happy to finish the first three months of the season at the top, aren’t we? finished the Benfica coach.

Benfica will now only return to the pitch on 1 October when they play Vitória de Guimarães away from home in the 8th round of the Portuguese Championship. As for the Champions League, the next commitment will be on October 5 against Paris Saint-Germain at home.

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro Filipe Cunha, Artistic Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Braga, has been invited to conduct the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, as announced today.

According to a statement sent by O MINHO, “he will be the first Portuguese conductor to conduct this orchestra in its entire history.”

In addition to this orchestra, the maestro will also work with the Lyceo Mozarteum de la Habana Symphony Orchestra.

The concerts will take place on 4 and 12 March 2023 at the National Theater of Cuba in Havana.

In the words of the maestro, quoted in the statement, “these will be very beautiful concerts with difficult but very complex pieces” and therefore he feels “very motivated”.

From the very beginning, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 will be performed by an Italian pianist (Luigi Borzillo), whom the maestro wants to bring to Portugal later this year. In the same concert, Mendelshon’s First Symphony will be performed.

Then, at the second concert, in the company of the Mexican clarinetist Angel Zedillo, he will perform the Louis Sfora Concerto No. 2. In this concert, the maestro also conducts Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony.

“This is an international recognition of my work. An invitation that I accept with humility and great responsibility. I was surprised to learn that I would be the first Portuguese member of the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra. This is a very great honor,” the maestro said in a statement.

“I take with me the name of the city of Braga and Portugal with all the responsibility that goes with it, and I hope to do a good job there, leaving a good image and putting on great concerts. These will be very special concerts because, in addition to performing pieces that I love, especially Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, I will be directing two wonderful soloists who are also my friends. It will be very beautiful,” concludes Filipe Cunha.
