Three years later, festival goers met again at MEO Marés Vivas. With a new “home”, in the old Campismo da Madalena park, the Vila Nova de Gaia festival was packed to welcome a good old friend from Portugal, Bryan Adams.

After performing at the Pavilhão Multiusos in Gondomar and the Altice Arena in Lisbon in January, the Canadian musician returned to celebrate the summer with Portuguese fans. A few minutes after 23:00, the artist went up to the MEO Stage and was greeted with a standing ovation from the festival visitors – it is for such warm receptions that the artists adore the Portuguese public.

The owner of hits that cross generations, Bryan Adams arrived at MEO Marés Vivas with the song “Kick Ass”, which is part of his latest album (“So Happy It Hurts”, released in March this year). The energy of the new single paved the way for time travel with the 1991 song “Can’t Stop This Thing We Started”.

The first two songs set the pace for the evening, followed by “Shine a Light” – despite the fact that this simple and piercing chorus was not one of the singer’s greatest hits, it was sung by 30,000 people who sold out this song. Between songs, Bryan Adams interacted with the fans and always took the risk of saying a few words in Portuguese. “Beijinhos” was the most common word on Madalena Beach.

After the party, more hits “Here I Am” and “Please Forgive Me” were played, which guaranteed great moments of communication between the fans and the Canadian singer. The party atmosphere with lots of dancing was continued with “When You’re Gone” by Bryan Adams with Melanie C, which took the audience back to the crazy teenage years.

With so many hits in the piggy bank, the singer did not put one of the most anticipated songs to the end. “(Everything I do) I do it for you” was played before the farewell and encore, and the festival goers celebrated and sang it in echoes.

Always with a smile and close to the audience, like a great friend, Bryan Adams captured the audience in all topics, but coordinated jumping and erratic dancing came with the song “Kids Wanna Rock”, which stirred the festival goers at an important moment on Festival night: “Summer of ’69 ”, perhaps the singer’s biggest hit and one of the songs that continue to play non-stop on national radio stations, was celebrated with euphoria by 30,000 people of all ages.

After the big hit, many festival goers were waiting for the Canadian to say goodbye. But there were inevitable hits too: the classic “Cuts Like a Knife” served as the soundtrack before the encore. After the crowd unanimously asked for “one more”, the singer returned to the stage to film four more songs (one and a half). The final goodbye was to “So Happy It Hurts”, “Run to You”, a version of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” and a medley of “Shine a Light” with “All For Love”. .”.

There’s always a party with the Jameses

Before Bryan Adams took to the main stage of MEO Marés Vivas, James warmed up the festival goers. With a career spanning over 30 years and behind hits like “Sit Down”, “She’sa Star”, “Laid” and “Getting Away With It”, the British band is already a “repeated” band. at the festival and felt at home.

For more than an hour and 30 minutes, the group captured the attention of thousands of viewers with hits that the public had on the tip of their tongues. “Hello Porto,” shot Tim Booth at the start of the show. “This is not Porto, this is Vila Nova de Gaia,” Saul Davis hastened to correct, knowing the corners of the “home” well.

The vocalist, always energetic on stage, jumped into the crowd at various times during the performance and made sure that no one rested during the concert.

On the first day of MEO Marés Vivas, Miguel Araujo, Maximo Park and The K’s also performed. At the beginning of the day, music was played on the Moche stage, one of five scattered around the hall, with Lhast, Domingues and Dj Oder.

On the stage dedicated to comedy, Ines Coimbra, Joao Dantas and Monica Vale de Gato answered in the evening.

For three days, Marés Vivas hosts over 35 national and international bands and artists.
