This is the strangest story from Budapest, the city where the national team laid the foundation for the European Football Championship. In a video posted to Instagram this Thursday, June 17, comedian Diogo Faro accuses SIC journalist Nuno Luz of resorting to violence upon arriving in the Hungarian capital, where they both shared a plane.
Luz, who is one of the correspondents for the sporting event, reportedly insulted Diogo Faro, who was also surrounded by the journalist’s teenage son, who nudged him by calling his names. All this before leaving the airport.
The comedian, who was traveling with friends to watch the game “Portugal”, realized that the journalist was flying in the same plane. “When [os meus amigos] they saw him, there were those who said, “He must want to interview you,” recalls the comedian of the comment, which everyone took as a joke.
But before leaving the restricted area, Faro saw that the journalist was talking to him “all in anger.” “He joins my face and starts,“ Now, my fucking sucker son of a bitch, are you going to tell me something to my face? “Tell me what you are saying now,” he says.
After the push, Nuno Luz will return to attack. “Do you think you can say whatever you want on the Internet, you fucking clown?” He says. Faro recalls the distrust of everyone around him.
“His son, 17 years old, also shouted at me. “You son of a bitch,” shoving me in the shoulder. Nuno Luz takes off his mask and continues to scream, ”he recalls. “How disgusting, he puts on a mask not only because of Covid-19, but also because he has to see it,” says Faro.
The comedian explains that he preferred to remain calm. A fan of non-violence, he emphasizes that it is not in his nature to “solve everything with a bang”, no matter how the situation “ignited him.”
He asks what could have caused the situation. “I’ve already made fun of Nuno Luz, as all comedians in Portugal or more or less half of the country have done. Are such things justified? I really doubt it, I don’t think so. “
As he made his way to the exit, he continued to be harassed and insulted by the journalist and his son, who continued to push him. The confusion, according to the comedian, caused more reactions from other passengers on the flight.
“Some people considered it right to start insulting me. Another guy came shouting: “You son of a bitch, you asshole, you mock all the Portuguese.” Then another one came, ”he recalls. “I think most people didn’t know me or hated me, but there was a small percentage who thought it was legitimate to resort to me because they didn’t like my job. It seems to me that such an escalation is not entirely normal. “
Faro highlights another important detail: “First of all, it doesn’t seem normal for a SIC journalist who has an ID around his neck to take this approach.“
The splashes eventually subsided and the comedian spoke to other passengers who prompted him to file a complaint – and who he said provided their testimony.
Regarding the revelation, Faro explains that “he could not help but tell about this episode,” which he considers “completely unacceptable.” “This attitude is not only unacceptable for a SIC journalist, but it also encourages more people to be violent towards a comedian just because they don’t like him, be a comedian, a journalist, whatever.”
Back in Portugal, he adds that he will report the incident to several friends, including reporters, and that, according to Faro, they will confirm that “this is not the first time he has threatened and tried to hit people who said: something about him. “” It looks like it’s repetitive behavior. “
And he leaves a note: “If he hits everyone who is already joking about him, he will hit half the country, right?”
NiT attempted to contact Nuno Luz to collect his version of events, but the reporter has not responded to this contact so far.
