Beware of what you “find” on Mars, scientists warn after the discovery of the fossils.
Mars remains a fertile field for otherworldly discoveries. There remains a strong belief that the planet has signs of Martian life that existed millions of years ago. Rocks on Mars may contain several types of non-biological sediments, which look like the types of fossils that could be found if life ever existed on the planet, one study says.
The researchers say separating these false fossils from what may indicate ancient life on the surface of Mars that was temporarily inhabited four billion years ago is key to the success of current and future missions.
