The shooting occurred around 3 pm PT Saturday, Red Bluff City manager Rick Crabtree told CNN by telephone.
A car crashed into a distribution center, which set off a fire, Crabtree said. The fire was not very significant, Crabtree said.
An unknown man was shot at the scene and taken to hospital, he said. It is not clear whether law enforcement shot the suspect.
“There is an active shooter, he was shot, last I heard he was on his way to the hospital,” Crabtree said.
Hendrickson said that the Community Hospital of St. Elizabeth in Red Bluff, part of Dignity Health, received a total of six patients from the Walmart Distribution Center.
Two died and four were in fair condition, said Hendrickson. He could not provide information about the nature of the injury or the age of the person being taken to the hospital.
The dispatcher received several calls from a distribution center that reported an active shooter and several shots were fired, spokesman for the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office Yvette Borden told CNN by telephone late Saturday.
A Walmart spokesperson told CNN that they were aware of the situation.
“We are aware of the situation and are working with law enforcement to investigate. We do not have additional information to share at this time,” Walmart spokesman Scott Pope told CNN.
Borden said the scene was still very active and law enforcement was working to clean the building. The building is very large, Borden said. Law enforcement officials have completed an initial sweep of the building to find shooters and possible victims, Borden said.
This is a developing story.
