NFL players present challenges to the league in the Black Lives Matter video

Saquon Barkley, Sterling Shepard and Jamal Adams joined many NFL players in a social media video asking the league to “listen to your players” and increase the defenses of black life after George Floyd’s death.

The Giants and Jets star joined Thursday night in the video – which shifted from player to player – by Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes, Cowboy running back Ezekiel Elliott, Brown Odell recipient Beckham Jr. and others in response to Floyd, who is black, was killed at the hands of a white police officer in Minneapolis on May 25.

The league released a May 30 statement and additional social media posts discussed the problem on Thursday. The players, who did not mention the name of commissioner Roger Goodell, wanted to hear more.

“On behalf of the National Football League this is what we, the players want to hear you say,” the players said in the video. “Our National Football League condemns racism and systematic oppression of black people. We, the National Football League, admit to mistakes in silencing our players from peaceful action. We, the National Football League believe in Black Lives Matter. “

The video also includes Cardinal stars D’Andre Hopkins and Patrick Peterson, Texas quarterback Deshaun Watson, Browns receiver Jarvis Landry, defensive midfielder Redskins Chase Young, big recipient of Saints Michael Thomas, Saints cornerback Stephon Gilmore and Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu.

He asked the league how many times we needed to ask you “to listen to your players?” They said they would not be silenced, asserting “their right to peaceful protests” and that they were Floyd.

“What is needed? For one use to be killed by police brutality? “said the players.” What if I were George Floyd? “

The NFL, in addition to the original statement from Goodell which stated its commitment to “continue the important work of overcoming this systemic problem together with our players, clubs and partners,” went further Thursday. In a Twitter post on the league’s official account before the players’ videos were released, the league said, “This is a time of self-reflection for all – the NFL is no exception. We support the black community because of the Black Lives Matter. “

In subsequent posts, the league stated that it had supported programs to tackle systemic racism and planned to donate an additional $ 20 million to these goals, but knew “we can and need to do more.”

The post came after Saints quarterback Drew Brees, who has since apologized twice, angered teammates and players around the NFL by saying he “would not agree with anyone who did not respect the flag” While a number of Brees teammates, including Thomas, said they received an apology, Adams didn’t, tweeting an apology was “bulls-t.”

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro Filipe Cunha, Artistic Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Braga, has been invited to conduct the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, as announced today.

According to a statement sent by O MINHO, “he will be the first Portuguese conductor to conduct this orchestra in its entire history.”

In addition to this orchestra, the maestro will also work with the Lyceo Mozarteum de la Habana Symphony Orchestra.

The concerts will take place on 4 and 12 March 2023 at the National Theater of Cuba in Havana.

In the words of the maestro, quoted in the statement, “these will be very beautiful concerts with difficult but very complex pieces” and therefore he feels “very motivated”.

From the very beginning, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 will be performed by an Italian pianist (Luigi Borzillo), whom the maestro wants to bring to Portugal later this year. In the same concert, Mendelshon’s First Symphony will be performed.

Then, at the second concert, in the company of the Mexican clarinetist Angel Zedillo, he will perform the Louis Sfora Concerto No. 2. In this concert, the maestro also conducts Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony.

“This is an international recognition of my work. An invitation that I accept with humility and great responsibility. I was surprised to learn that I would be the first Portuguese member of the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra. This is a very great honor,” the maestro said in a statement.

“I take with me the name of the city of Braga and Portugal with all the responsibility that goes with it, and I hope to do a good job there, leaving a good image and putting on great concerts. These will be very special concerts because, in addition to performing pieces that I love, especially Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, I will be directing two wonderful soloists who are also my friends. It will be very beautiful,” concludes Filipe Cunha.
