A black officer comes in when a white police officer has a suspect in a chokehold. He was fired and the city wants an investigation

A black officer comes in when a white police officer has a suspect in a chokehold. He was fired and the city wants an investigation

The incident took place in November 2006. At that time, Officer Cariol Horne had served 19 of the 20 years needed to receive his pension, a Horne spokesman told CNN.

But Horne was fired for intervening and not eligible for his retirement, the city said.

“You crossed that thin blue line, then you were ostracized and treated very badly, I don’t want that to happen to anyone else,” Horne to CNN affiliates, WIVB.

“So, I lost my pension, [the suspect] not lose his life, so [he] still alive to this day because I intervened. ”

CNN has been trying to contact Horne to get additional comments.

To correct what he thinks is wrong, the Buffalo General Council – the legislative branch of the city government – has submitted a resolution to the New York Attorney General’s Office to look at both cases.

The council referred to the case of George Floyd, who died after the knee of Minneapolis police Derek Chauvin was pressed against his neck for eight minutes and 46 seconds on May 25. Chauvin has been fired and charged with second-degree murder. Three other officers at the scene were accused of aiding and abetting a second-degree murder and aiding and abetting a second-degree murder.

“There is a responsibility to propose special protection for individual police officers who intervene to protect citizens from excessive use of situations of violence involving their other officers,” the council said in the resolution.

The resolution called on the Buffalo Police Department to enforce and train officers on the “Duty to intervene” policy in the next 30 days and to examine any difference in attendance in the days needed for him to receive his pension.

The “Duty to intervene” policy calls on officials to protect citizens from unnecessary or excessive use of force, the resolution said.

“We now have a totally different attorney general, we have a completely different climate and lens now, all over the world, because it is related to policing in the United States,” Buffalo General Council President Darius Pridgen told WIVB.

“So I think this is the right time to look back on this case and see if there are violations of civil rights he can resolve,” he said.

The New York Attorney General’s Office told CNN that they would not comment on the matter at this time.

CNN has contacted the Buffalo Police Department regarding this incident.

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro Filipe Cunha, Artistic Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Braga, has been invited to conduct the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, as announced today.

According to a statement sent by O MINHO, “he will be the first Portuguese conductor to conduct this orchestra in its entire history.”

In addition to this orchestra, the maestro will also work with the Lyceo Mozarteum de la Habana Symphony Orchestra.

The concerts will take place on 4 and 12 March 2023 at the National Theater of Cuba in Havana.

In the words of the maestro, quoted in the statement, “these will be very beautiful concerts with difficult but very complex pieces” and therefore he feels “very motivated”.

From the very beginning, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 will be performed by an Italian pianist (Luigi Borzillo), whom the maestro wants to bring to Portugal later this year. In the same concert, Mendelshon’s First Symphony will be performed.

Then, at the second concert, in the company of the Mexican clarinetist Angel Zedillo, he will perform the Louis Sfora Concerto No. 2. In this concert, the maestro also conducts Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony.

“This is an international recognition of my work. An invitation that I accept with humility and great responsibility. I was surprised to learn that I would be the first Portuguese member of the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra. This is a very great honor,” the maestro said in a statement.

“I take with me the name of the city of Braga and Portugal with all the responsibility that goes with it, and I hope to do a good job there, leaving a good image and putting on great concerts. These will be very special concerts because, in addition to performing pieces that I love, especially Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, I will be directing two wonderful soloists who are also my friends. It will be very beautiful,” concludes Filipe Cunha.
