911 response time can increase if NYPD number is cut: source

NYPD 911 response times could surge 22 percent – an average of two minutes, 32 seconds – if the number of department staff was cut by more than 3,000 police officers under a proposal reported by the City Council, sources told The Post.

MPs are considering reducing uniformed troops from around 36,000 to around 33,000 to help add $ 1 billion in savings from the NYPD’s $ 6 billion budget, Politico reported, citing City Council sources.

But that could mean crime victims have to wait an average of 14 minutes for help rather than 11 minutes and 28 seconds at this time.

A proportional increase in response time will have a major impact on the city environment that is most difficult to crush.

In the 40th Precinct South Bronx, which has the highest number of shooting incidents of any command in the city so far this year, police will likely take 14 minutes and 43 seconds to respond to work if the number is cut more than two minutes from their current response time of around 12 minutes.

At the 42 nearest Precinct in the Morrisania section of the Bronx, response times are expected to increase by more than three minutes to 19:51 from 16:16, according to sources.

The highest increase is expected to occur at the 44th Precinct, which includes the environment near the Yankee Stadium, the source said. There, the response time of officers to ongoing crimes is projected to increase by more than four minutes, from 18:18 to 22:20.

At 67 Precinct Brooklyn, which includes the East Flatbush neighborhood, response time is expected to increase by almost three minutes, from 1:12 to 4:06 pm.

The average response time in the entire city for ongoing crime is 11:28, according to sources.

Response time for calls other than those reporting ongoing crime is expected to increase even more, with 46 Precincts at Fordham expecting an increase of more than nine minutes, according to sources.

City Councilor Joe Borelli, a Republican from Staten Island, said the projection would have the greatest negative impact on New Yorkers.

“The public must know the true cost and unfortunately the price is far more than $ 1 billion. Victims of crime will only ask those who shout ‘defund police’, “Borelli said.

“This will clearly impact more vulnerable, lower-income New Yorkers than anyone else. “It’s just a bad policy,” he added.

This movement will not affect the EMS response time.

NYPD did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro Filipe Cunha, Artistic Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Braga, has been invited to conduct the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, as announced today.

According to a statement sent by O MINHO, “he will be the first Portuguese conductor to conduct this orchestra in its entire history.”

In addition to this orchestra, the maestro will also work with the Lyceo Mozarteum de la Habana Symphony Orchestra.

The concerts will take place on 4 and 12 March 2023 at the National Theater of Cuba in Havana.

In the words of the maestro, quoted in the statement, “these will be very beautiful concerts with difficult but very complex pieces” and therefore he feels “very motivated”.

From the very beginning, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 will be performed by an Italian pianist (Luigi Borzillo), whom the maestro wants to bring to Portugal later this year. In the same concert, Mendelshon’s First Symphony will be performed.

Then, at the second concert, in the company of the Mexican clarinetist Angel Zedillo, he will perform the Louis Sfora Concerto No. 2. In this concert, the maestro also conducts Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony.

“This is an international recognition of my work. An invitation that I accept with humility and great responsibility. I was surprised to learn that I would be the first Portuguese member of the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra. This is a very great honor,” the maestro said in a statement.

“I take with me the name of the city of Braga and Portugal with all the responsibility that goes with it, and I hope to do a good job there, leaving a good image and putting on great concerts. These will be very special concerts because, in addition to performing pieces that I love, especially Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, I will be directing two wonderful soloists who are also my friends. It will be very beautiful,” concludes Filipe Cunha.
