Violations will suffer in the short MLB season

All the evidence needed to agree with the vision of former Yankees reliever Mike Stanton for the short MLB season was reinforced on Saturday.

That’s when Gerrit Cole and Adam Ottavino continued their Yankee Stadium bullpen session ahead of Wednesday’s “spring training” reporting date for the players. The two days of testing will be followed by the Yankees’ first training at the Stadium on Friday.

“I think this has a chance of becoming anemic,” Stanton told The Post on Saturday from his home in Texas. “That is because hitters will not get a repeat of the direct play they will get in regular spring training.”

Cole and Ottavino have not been throwing bullpen sessions alone since the coronavirus closed its spring training camp on March 12. Zack Britton and James Paxton continued to throw in Texas and Wisconsin, respectively, and Jordan Montgomery did the same in South Carolina.

Stanton had a two-pronged plan to prepare pitchers and beaters simultaneously.

“I want all pitchers to throw a direct hit practice, 40 pitches. “I don’t want the intensity of the game but the pitcher throws a lot of pitch in bullpens,” Stanton said. “The hitters have to do batting practice straight from Day 1. I want the hitters to see as much BP live as possible.”

Stanton, a Yankees reliever from 1997 to 2002 and again in 2005, believes today’s pitcher habits during downtime such as the three-month hiatus should not limit the number of pitches thrown in the initial match.

“It’s a different generation and a different mindset,” said 53-year-old Stanton, who played in the big league for 19 years with Braves, Yankees, Red Sox, Mets, Nationals, Giants and Rangers. “In some capacity, they have thrown.”

Stanton suggested not to overdo anything in the first week of spring 2 training to avoid injury. But after that, the focus must be on building stamina and calculating notes.

“The last 10 days cut it. I think the starter should be able to throw 90 [pitches]”Stanton said.

How Matt Blake, Yankees’ first-year pitching coach, mapped out his starter workload between Friday and the first match if the COVID-19 pandemic allowed it, on July 23 against world champions the Nationals in Washington, to be interesting and possibly cautious.

Cole, who will start the Opening Day against the Orioles in Baltimore and Aaron Boone’s clear choice against the Nationals, threw 55 pitches in his fourth spring training which began on March 10. With two remaining spring outings, Cole will likely increase the number of pitches in the first by 15 or more but many pitching coaches shorten the starting pitch count in the last outing.

However, something first appeared that had never been seen before: extensive testing for viruses.

The Yankees players and staff members will undergo two days of rigorous screening and health tests before entering the stadium on Monday and Tuesday.

The team has a time of up to 4 pm. Sunday to submit a list of 60 people. Most likely to be included is the prospect of top pitching Clarke Schmidt and Deivi Garcia who are not included in the list of 40 players. Without minor league matches, this is an opportunity to provide a structured program and the opportunity to become part of a taxi force.

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro Filipe Cunha, Artistic Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Braga, has been invited to conduct the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, as announced today.

According to a statement sent by O MINHO, “he will be the first Portuguese conductor to conduct this orchestra in its entire history.”

In addition to this orchestra, the maestro will also work with the Lyceo Mozarteum de la Habana Symphony Orchestra.

The concerts will take place on 4 and 12 March 2023 at the National Theater of Cuba in Havana.

In the words of the maestro, quoted in the statement, “these will be very beautiful concerts with difficult but very complex pieces” and therefore he feels “very motivated”.

From the very beginning, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 will be performed by an Italian pianist (Luigi Borzillo), whom the maestro wants to bring to Portugal later this year. In the same concert, Mendelshon’s First Symphony will be performed.

Then, at the second concert, in the company of the Mexican clarinetist Angel Zedillo, he will perform the Louis Sfora Concerto No. 2. In this concert, the maestro also conducts Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony.

“This is an international recognition of my work. An invitation that I accept with humility and great responsibility. I was surprised to learn that I would be the first Portuguese member of the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra. This is a very great honor,” the maestro said in a statement.

“I take with me the name of the city of Braga and Portugal with all the responsibility that goes with it, and I hope to do a good job there, leaving a good image and putting on great concerts. These will be very special concerts because, in addition to performing pieces that I love, especially Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, I will be directing two wonderful soloists who are also my friends. It will be very beautiful,” concludes Filipe Cunha.
