The central authorities of the United Kingdom refused to provide the Portuguese court with information on possible entries and exits of former banker João Rendeiro in the country. According to the response to the letter rogatory sent by Judge Tanya Loureiro Gomes, who sentenced Rendeira to ten years in prison, the court must confirm the purpose of her request. And if this goal is to establish the whereabouts of the accused, then the judicial authorities should send him “to the police”.

A claim filed by a Portuguese court was received by the British judicial authorities on 8 October. In this document, which has been translated into English, Tanya Loureiro Gomes requested “urgently” to indicate the process of entry and / or exit of Portuguese citizen João Rendeiro within the last twelve months… I needed entries for entries and exits, as well as destinations. The justice of the peace substantiated the petition by the fact that in the period from 12 to 30 September the defendant announced that he was in this country.

The answer came in the last week of October, but it needed to be translated. In this document, which is now included in the file accessed by the observer, the UK central authority states that it is “impossible” to accept the request as it requires additional information:

  1. Confirmation of whether the goal is to find the person in question
  2. If this is not the purpose, indicate what offenses are being investigated to substantiate such information.
  3. In the event that the target is the whereabouts of a person, the UK Central Authority then directs a Portuguese court to file this request in the context of law enforcement cooperation.

To “proceed with the case”, the British authorities give Portugal 30 days to respond or declare the case closed. Until this Thursday, however, the judge did not answer, possibly because the criminal proceedings for the theft of works of art confiscated from João Rendeiro and in custody of his wife led to the searches and arrest of Maria. de Jesus Rendeiro (currently under house arrest). The whereabouts of the former banker must now be investigated through this process, which is under judicial secrecy, in contrast to the process conducted by Judge Tanya Loureiro Gomes, which has already been tried and is in public.

How Rendeiro’s escape led to Maria’s arrest: all suspicions about the wife of the former leader of the BPP

Prior to this request from the judge, following Rendeiro’s statement that he did not intend to return to Portugal, the judicial police requested identical records from their British colleagues. In this case, the response received was that there were no entries and exits in the defendant’s country, which could indicate that he was not even in the United Kingdom during the period in which he declared his stay, indicating addresses of the Portuguese embassy in that country. parents.

Rendeiro’s trip to Paris and the judge’s attempts to find him

However, this information contradicts Portway’s records, to which the judge also sent requests for information, and which show that João Rendeiro booked a trip to the United Kingdom between 12 and 30 September – a clause to which he attributed false addresses in Poland.

The forensic police are also investigating the tapes provided by Portway, as it is necessary to confirm whether João Rendeiro, identified during these trips, was indeed a former banker. On at least one of these trips destined for Milan, João Rendeiro was different, according to the newspaper. New

João Rendeiro was sentenced to ten years in prison for donating more than 31 million euros to his personal business, together with three other former directors of the Banco Privado Português (BPP) between 2003 and 2008. in international arrest warrants against them, and that it should be submitted to the Court in the coming weeks, subject to the resources of the defendants. In another final case, Rendeiro faces a five-year and eight-month prison sentence for computer forgery and document forgery crimes.

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro Filipe Cunha, Artistic Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Braga, has been invited to conduct the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, as announced today.

According to a statement sent by O MINHO, “he will be the first Portuguese conductor to conduct this orchestra in its entire history.”

In addition to this orchestra, the maestro will also work with the Lyceo Mozarteum de la Habana Symphony Orchestra.

The concerts will take place on 4 and 12 March 2023 at the National Theater of Cuba in Havana.

In the words of the maestro, quoted in the statement, “these will be very beautiful concerts with difficult but very complex pieces” and therefore he feels “very motivated”.

From the very beginning, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 will be performed by an Italian pianist (Luigi Borzillo), whom the maestro wants to bring to Portugal later this year. In the same concert, Mendelshon’s First Symphony will be performed.

Then, at the second concert, in the company of the Mexican clarinetist Angel Zedillo, he will perform the Louis Sfora Concerto No. 2. In this concert, the maestro also conducts Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony.

“This is an international recognition of my work. An invitation that I accept with humility and great responsibility. I was surprised to learn that I would be the first Portuguese member of the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra. This is a very great honor,” the maestro said in a statement.

“I take with me the name of the city of Braga and Portugal with all the responsibility that goes with it, and I hope to do a good job there, leaving a good image and putting on great concerts. These will be very special concerts because, in addition to performing pieces that I love, especially Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, I will be directing two wonderful soloists who are also my friends. It will be very beautiful,” concludes Filipe Cunha.
