Manaus (AM)- In the third edition of the Ricardo Boechat Prize for Political Journalism at the Escola do Congresso de Itapevi (SP), one of the winners was Vinicius Souza, a graduate of the Faculty of Information and Communications (FIC) of the Federal University of Amazonas. (Ufam).
In a report entitled “Basic sanitation: a right for all, a privilege for a few”, the Coletivo Fonte 5 team, formed by Vinicius Souza, Eduardo Schmitt, Felipe Barbosa, Carla Santos and Secret Oliveira, addressed the problems of neglect in the North, Northeast. and the southeast of the country.
In addition to receiving top scores from the jury, the report also won in the Popular Vote category with over 1,700 Facebook interactions. The awards are shared with four other journalists from the states of Bahia (BA), São Paulo (SP) and Rio Grande do Sul (RS), who together form the Fonte 5 Collective.
As a representative of the Northern region, Vinicius raised the issue of the drama experienced in the Amazon capital, especially to the residents of the Edukandos region, located in the southern zone of Manaus.
“To know the reality of those who do not have running water, wastewater collection and treatment or city cleaning was wonderful. Seeing the statistics is one thing, but it is nothing compared to actually being where the problem arose and talking to the victims, ”the student emphasized.
Vinicius has been a member of Portal da Ciência, a project to expand the scientific dissemination of the journalism course at Ufam, for over a year now, working in various audiovisual frameworks under the guidance of Prof. Cristian Barbosa.
“Participating for over a year in the science dissemination activity of Portal da Ciência has greatly contributed to my technical and professional development to start a similar activity and receive this award with the Coletivo 5 team”
For Portal da Ciência coordinator and professor of journalism at the FIC, Prof. Cristian Barbosa, the achievement shows that the university is preparing high-level journalists.
“Watching a student develop and fulfill himself at the national level brings great satisfaction to the entire Fic/Ufam academic community. I shared an invitation to participate in the competition and Vinicius was the only one who answered the call and together with the Coletivo 5 team was able to develop such an important report showing the critical scenario of basic sanitation in the North. The work developed with him on the Science Portal brings promising results. Congratulations to the entire team involved,” emphasized the Portal coordinator.
