Thomas Macias posted he regretted attending the party. He died of coronavirus the next day

Thomas Macias, 51, went to a barbecue last month near his community on Lake Elsinore, about 70 miles from Los Angeles.

Shortly after the party, he began to feel sick. On June 20, he posted a poignant message on Facebook to warn people he loved about the risk of the virus, his family said.

“I left a few weeks ago … because of my stupidity, I endangered the health of my mother and sister,” he wrote. “This is a very painful experience. This is no joke. If you have to go out, wear a mask, and practice keeping a social distance … Hopefully with God’s help, I will be able to survive this.”

Macias works as a truck driver and suffers from diabetes, making him vulnerable to viruses. Doctors say people with underlying conditions such as diabetes, chronic lung disease, and asthma are at higher risk.

Before the barbecue, he had just come out, his brother-in-law Gustavo Lopez told CNN. But he was very social and felt isolated, and decided to visit his friends when the state lifted some restrictions, he added.

“Wherever he goes, he becomes friends right away,” Lopez said. “He misses his friends and misses his family. So, once they lift some limits he feels free and he unfortunately goes to these gatherings to be with his friends and then this is the result.”

A friend at the party called Macias to say he had a coronavirus, and he was aware of the diagnosis when he attended the meeting but didn’t think he could infect anyone because he had no symptoms, Lopez said.

“Our understanding is that a man has called him and said ‘hey I’m at a party, I know I’m positive. I didn’t tell anyone,'” Lopez said. “I think the man regretted not telling everyone, and he called people at the party to recommend that they be tested.”

Macias was upset but blamed himself for mistakes in judgment, even using his Facebook post to warn friends about the dangers of the virus. About a dozen people who attended the party tested positive, Lopez said.

Macias was tested on June 15, got positive results on June 18 and died June 21. The Vital Records office in Riverside County confirmed this he died of coronavirus.

Riverside County has more than 18,000 confirmed cases of the corona virus and around 460 deaths. This has the second highest number of cases in the state after Los Angeles County.

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro Filipe Cunha, Artistic Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Braga, has been invited to conduct the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, as announced today.

According to a statement sent by O MINHO, “he will be the first Portuguese conductor to conduct this orchestra in its entire history.”

In addition to this orchestra, the maestro will also work with the Lyceo Mozarteum de la Habana Symphony Orchestra.

The concerts will take place on 4 and 12 March 2023 at the National Theater of Cuba in Havana.

In the words of the maestro, quoted in the statement, “these will be very beautiful concerts with difficult but very complex pieces” and therefore he feels “very motivated”.

From the very beginning, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 will be performed by an Italian pianist (Luigi Borzillo), whom the maestro wants to bring to Portugal later this year. In the same concert, Mendelshon’s First Symphony will be performed.

Then, at the second concert, in the company of the Mexican clarinetist Angel Zedillo, he will perform the Louis Sfora Concerto No. 2. In this concert, the maestro also conducts Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony.

“This is an international recognition of my work. An invitation that I accept with humility and great responsibility. I was surprised to learn that I would be the first Portuguese member of the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra. This is a very great honor,” the maestro said in a statement.

“I take with me the name of the city of Braga and Portugal with all the responsibility that goes with it, and I hope to do a good job there, leaving a good image and putting on great concerts. These will be very special concerts because, in addition to performing pieces that I love, especially Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, I will be directing two wonderful soloists who are also my friends. It will be very beautiful,” concludes Filipe Cunha.
