The Portuguese center creates a 300-kilogram piece on a 3D printer. Do you want to make a house of 144 m2 [vídeo]

The Polytechnic Institute of the Center for Rapid and Sustainable Product Development (CDRSP) of Leiria has created a 300 kg plastic object, Artur Matheus, deputy director of the research institution, said.

“This is possibly the largest 3D printed product in Portugal using the Portuguese extrusion system. There are companies in the United States that make parts by the ton,” and “some in Europe,” he said.

In Portugal, he said he did not know an item of this size had ever been made and it was “the first 300 kg plastic item made at CDRSP”.

“We have already made a two-ton cement stone and are developing a machine to make – this will be a case study – a 12 x 12 square meter family home. [144 m2] on a 3D printer,” he added.

This is a “small bus stop module”, which took about 20 hours to build, was conceived and designed by Weadd and produced using the technology of Periplast, a Leiria-based plastics extrusion company. industry market.

“Many Portuguese companies are already looking into this because it allows us to produce molds from recyclable thermoplastic materials for large composite material components,” the researcher said.

Arthur Matheus gave the example of a boat mould, which typically uses thermosetting resins or Styrofoam.

“Eventually Styrofoam goes into civil engineering to try and use it to mix cement, and the resins end up in landfill. Being made of thermoplastic, it allows it to be manufactured in what is known as a monocoque, which is a single piece that can be hollow, thermoplastic ribbed, and at the end of its life it will be crushed and made again in a different shape.” , – said the deputy director of CDRSP, emphasizing the environmental friendliness of the product.

The stop module, created last week, was created to showcase the Add.Additive mobilizing project, led by ADIRA, a company of the Sonae Capital group, which involves several Portuguese universities and companies.

“It was created to showcase the technology. We made two parts, one of which was 75% recycled, but it turned out to be less successful. We have to set things up. It’s done, with little problems that we understand how we can solve,” he said.

The next step could be to present the project to the mayor of Marinha Grande “so that a bus stop can be installed in the industrial area” where the CDRSP operates, based on this formless process.

“Perhaps we could make a composition that suggests a place where a person can sit, a place where he can stand and write something. It could be a recycled and translucent material to create a smaller visual effect,” he acknowledged.

Arthur Matheus also said that CDRSP will be involved in creating the mold for the small float of the catamaran.

“It will be made from plastic collected (one ton) from the sea off Tavira. We’re going to use calcium carbonate from oysters and other shells that come from the food industry to make the compost more stable and with less compression.”

“We do things every day that don’t impress. They serve to communicate with society and create expectations. Expectations feed us and give us more opportunities to nourish the motives that make us move forward,” he stressed.

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro Filipe Cunha, Artistic Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Braga, has been invited to conduct the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, as announced today.

According to a statement sent by O MINHO, “he will be the first Portuguese conductor to conduct this orchestra in its entire history.”

In addition to this orchestra, the maestro will also work with the Lyceo Mozarteum de la Habana Symphony Orchestra.

The concerts will take place on 4 and 12 March 2023 at the National Theater of Cuba in Havana.

In the words of the maestro, quoted in the statement, “these will be very beautiful concerts with difficult but very complex pieces” and therefore he feels “very motivated”.

From the very beginning, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 will be performed by an Italian pianist (Luigi Borzillo), whom the maestro wants to bring to Portugal later this year. In the same concert, Mendelshon’s First Symphony will be performed.

Then, at the second concert, in the company of the Mexican clarinetist Angel Zedillo, he will perform the Louis Sfora Concerto No. 2. In this concert, the maestro also conducts Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony.

“This is an international recognition of my work. An invitation that I accept with humility and great responsibility. I was surprised to learn that I would be the first Portuguese member of the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra. This is a very great honor,” the maestro said in a statement.

“I take with me the name of the city of Braga and Portugal with all the responsibility that goes with it, and I hope to do a good job there, leaving a good image and putting on great concerts. These will be very special concerts because, in addition to performing pieces that I love, especially Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, I will be directing two wonderful soloists who are also my friends. It will be very beautiful,” concludes Filipe Cunha.
