The Mets hope the prospect of Matthew Allan can be their next ace

Part 3 in the series about the top prospects of the Mets.

The Mets used the initial round of drafts last year to bring much-needed pitching talent to the organization.

At the top of the list is Matthew Allan’s right hand, a projected pick-15 who enters military service for fear of whether he will sign. The Mets snatched Allan (who was considering receiving a scholarship to the University of Florida) in the third round and gave him a $ 2.5 million signing bonus over the slot, part of a strategy in which the organization then chooses college seniors with little negotiating influence to balance bonus rations pool.

Very early returns to Allan is positive. In five appearances last season in the Rookie Bay Coast League, he threw to 1.08 ERA and 1,080 WHIP. The Mets promoted him to Brooklyn during the Cyclones playoff round at the end of last season, and he allowed two runs in a two-innings appearance. In the playoffs, he fired five deadly innings for two relief appearances to help Brooklyn win the New York-Penn League championship.

“We promoted him to Brooklyn because he threw the ball well and we want him to feel the playoff race,” Mets executive director, player development, Jared Banner, said in an email. “We know he has the makeup to develop under pressure and he does – helping us to the championship.”

Before choosing Allan, the Mets used a second round pick on another high school pitcher, Josh Wolf. Both are widely regarded as top 10 Mets prospects, with Allan rated as the organization’s top pitching prospect. Registered at 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds, Allan throws plus-fastball and plus-curveball, producing a lot of strength from the bottom half developed.

“Matt understands the demands to be a pitcher, so he works hard in the gym to prepare his body,” Banner said. “His training also allows him to use his legs well in labor and get the most out of his arms.”

The initial selection of pitchers, especially Allan, was important for the Mets after the offseason in which general manager Brodie Van Wagenen gave Justin Dunn’s best pitching prospects to Mariners as part of a trade for Edwin Diaz and Robinson Cano. Two additional pitching prospects, Anthony Kay and Simeon Woods-Richardson, were dropped from the organization last summer in trading for Marcus Stroman.

Further reinforcements will be needed when the Mets prepare for the possibility that Noah Syndergaard and Steven Matz will depart through free agents after the 2021 season. Stroman, Rick Porcello and Michael Wacha are pieces of Mets rotation that can all suppress free agents this winter.

Allan might not have included the factor in the Mets equation before 2023, but for now team officials can dream that they have other potential aces in the making.

“We are impressed by Matt’s desire to receive information that can help him,” Banner said. “He pays attention to his nutrition and meditation as seriously as his mound work. He and our pitching coordinator, Ricky Meinhold, have developed a great relationship and Matt doesn’t let this time at home stop him from getting better. “

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro Filipe Cunha, Artistic Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Braga, has been invited to conduct the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, as announced today.

According to a statement sent by O MINHO, “he will be the first Portuguese conductor to conduct this orchestra in its entire history.”

In addition to this orchestra, the maestro will also work with the Lyceo Mozarteum de la Habana Symphony Orchestra.

The concerts will take place on 4 and 12 March 2023 at the National Theater of Cuba in Havana.

In the words of the maestro, quoted in the statement, “these will be very beautiful concerts with difficult but very complex pieces” and therefore he feels “very motivated”.

From the very beginning, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 will be performed by an Italian pianist (Luigi Borzillo), whom the maestro wants to bring to Portugal later this year. In the same concert, Mendelshon’s First Symphony will be performed.

Then, at the second concert, in the company of the Mexican clarinetist Angel Zedillo, he will perform the Louis Sfora Concerto No. 2. In this concert, the maestro also conducts Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony.

“This is an international recognition of my work. An invitation that I accept with humility and great responsibility. I was surprised to learn that I would be the first Portuguese member of the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra. This is a very great honor,” the maestro said in a statement.

“I take with me the name of the city of Braga and Portugal with all the responsibility that goes with it, and I hope to do a good job there, leaving a good image and putting on great concerts. These will be very special concerts because, in addition to performing pieces that I love, especially Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, I will be directing two wonderful soloists who are also my friends. It will be very beautiful,” concludes Filipe Cunha.
