The Light Band of the Portuguese Army gave a summer concert in Albufeira

Next Friday, at 21:30, the summer concert of the Light Band of the Portuguese Army will take place in Pescadores Square.

An unforgettable concert promises Orquestra Ligeira do Exército (OLE), which will perform for the first time at Praça dos Pescadores in Albufeira. This is a show in which good mood is combined with impeccable musical technique.

This show is intended for the general public as part of the Army’s efforts to strengthen the close relationship between the military establishment and the community, and also has an institutional dimension, embodied in the presence of the Mayor hosting the event and the Army Chief of Staff.

The Army Light Band (OLE), established in 1979, is led by Staff Sergeant Candido Ameisha. Its big band style structure consists of five saxophones (flute, clarinet), four trumpets (fleeskorn), four trombones, two keyboards, two altos, drums, percussion and four vocalists.

By performing light musical compositions, OLE sought to enhance the taste for national music, developing for this purpose a work of collecting, instrumenting and disseminating popular themes, and today is considered a real “ambassador” of the Portuguese army in civil society. to the affirmation and enhancement of our cultural heritage.

Over the years, he has performed diligently in the country’s most prestigious concert halls and with a wide variety of artists and guests on the national and international music scene. His curriculum is not limited to national borders, he has already given several concerts abroad, especially for Portuguese communities and individual national forces.

Over the years, several composers, orchestrators and arrangers have maintained a close relationship with OLE, providing it with original and exclusive themes that often give rise to arrangements and orchestrations performed by numerous Portuguese musical groups.

Praça Square will feature themes such as “Let’s Groove”, “Bang, Bang”, “You’re Under My Skin” and “Jump”, as well as tributes to Carlos do Carmo, Queen and Aretha Franklin. You will also hear songs by Bruno Mars, Wind Machine, In the Mood, Heróis do Mar and, of course, some of the best fado in the history of Portuguese music. The voices will belong to the already dedicated Alice Costa, Joao de Campos, Lina Rodriguez and Renata Marinho. At the end, there is a surprise that will lead everyone present into great excitement.

Method Media Bermuda will present the documentary FABRIC: Portuguese History in Bermuda on Thursday, December 29 at the Underwater Research Institute of Bermuda.

A spokesperson said: “Method Media is proud to bring Bermuda Fabric: Portugal History to Bermuda for its 5th and 6th showing at the Bermuda Underwater Observatory. In November and December 2019, Cloth: A Portuguese Story in Bermuda had four sold-out screenings. Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro Filipe Cunha, Artistic Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Braga, has been invited to conduct the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, as announced today.

According to a statement sent by O MINHO, “he will be the first Portuguese conductor to conduct this orchestra in its entire history.”

In addition to this orchestra, the maestro will also work with the Lyceo Mozarteum de la Habana Symphony Orchestra.

The concerts will take place on 4 and 12 March 2023 at the National Theater of Cuba in Havana.

In the words of the maestro, quoted in the statement, “these will be very beautiful concerts with difficult but very complex pieces” and therefore he feels “very motivated”.

From the very beginning, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 will be performed by an Italian pianist (Luigi Borzillo), whom the maestro wants to bring to Portugal later this year. In the same concert, Mendelshon’s First Symphony will be performed.

Then, at the second concert, in the company of the Mexican clarinetist Angel Zedillo, he will perform the Louis Sfora Concerto No. 2. In this concert, the maestro also conducts Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony.

“This is an international recognition of my work. An invitation that I accept with humility and great responsibility. I was surprised to learn that I would be the first Portuguese member of the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra. This is a very great honor,” the maestro said in a statement.

“I take with me the name of the city of Braga and Portugal with all the responsibility that goes with it, and I hope to do a good job there, leaving a good image and putting on great concerts. These will be very special concerts because, in addition to performing pieces that I love, especially Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, I will be directing two wonderful soloists who are also my friends. It will be very beautiful,” concludes Filipe Cunha.
