The first 5G school in Portugal is located in Matosinhos

On Tuesday morning, a cooperation protocol was signed between João Gonçalves Zarco High School in Matosinhos, technology company Ericsson and NOS to develop projects on the 5G network. This morning, 12th grade students made a virtual visit to the Pavilhão do Conhecimento in Lisbon.

Without leaving class, 17-year-old Hugo Escaleira, a science and technology student, visited the Pavilhão do Conhecimento in Lisbon, more than 300 kilometers from the school, using virtual reality glasses and the school’s 5G network. So he took the skin of a robot that was also in the capital, and while driving the car with the help of a team, the student visited the Explora room and asked the museum guide about scientific experiments such as convergence and divergence of light. Or meteorological phenomena like tornadoes.

A student who is confident that he will be able to attend classes using this technology this year foresees the possibility of visiting other places to apply knowledge in biology and geology or physics and chemistry.

For the headmaster, José Ramos, this is “a very important step in education.” It still needs to be explored, in conjunction with educators and in accordance with various educational programs, what practical application this technology will have in teaching. “The difficulty of being the first to move forward with a project gives us, on the one hand, a sense of pride. On the other hand, it also carries the risk of not knowing very well what will happen, ”admits Jose. Ramos.

“We expect curricula in different disciplines to work in different ways. I believe that 5G will allow us to take the classroom to any part of the world and allow students to experience situations that will help them internalize knowledge. “The director says, noting that the change will generate” some courage, “noting that” most teachers still have difficulties with technology. “

NOS chief executive Manuel Ramallo Eanes says 5G will promote “more democratic education,” meaning “a responsibility to educate young people to be prepared for tomorrow.” He explains that the goal is to create a learning concept that is “wider, better and that also helps motivate students more.”

João Gonçalves Zarcu Secondary School in Matosinhos has about 1,800 students in the third cycle, secondary education and adult education.

“Removing traditional barriers”

Sofia Vaz Pires, CEO of Ericsson Portugal, which bills the company as “the preferred partner of NOS in Matosinhos”, also notes that virtual reality will help “remove traditional barriers” in education.

Luisa Salgueiro, the re-elected mayor of Matosinhos who also attended this morning’s ceremony, left a promise that the municipality will keep “education as a priority in terms of local intervention strategy.”

“We want 5G to alleviate some of the difficulties still encountered in accessing learning and education,” he explained.

The first Dacia hybrid. "The cheapest hybrid family on the market"

BUT Dacia revealed this Monday that the hybrid engine has been available since March on the Jogger, the Romanian brand’s model known to be available with a seven-seat variant.

The Jogger Hybrid 140, Dacia’s first hybrid, will hit dealerships in March, but customers can expect and order it as early as January.

The price has been revealed by Dacia and since it’s only available in the seven-seater SL Extreme, it starts at €28,800. The brand claims it is “the most affordable hybrid family car on the market.”

Available in six existing colors to celebrate the launch of this hybrid, there will be a slate gray version, as you can see in the images above.

Equipped with a 1.6 liter four-cylinder petrol engine with 90 hp, the Jogger is also powered by two electric motors (a 50 hp engine and a high-voltage starter-generator). The total power is 140 horsepower. The electric transmission is automatic, four-speed, connected to an internal combustion engine, and two speeds are connected to an electric motor. This combined technology was possible, according to Dacia, only due to the lack of clutch.

Combined with the energy recovery levels of the 1.2kWh (230V) battery pack and the efficiency of the automatic transmission, regenerative braking delivers all-electric traction on 80% of urban journeys and saves up to 40% of fuel compared to a combustion engine vehicle.
