The election map is getting worse for Trump

But as we learned in 2016 (and 2000!), The only count that really matters is the Electoral College.

Unfortunately for Trump, his chances of reaching the 270 electoral votes he needed to win a second term were looking, at least at the moment, quite dim.

Over the past week, two main political prognosticators – Amy Walter in the Cook Political Report and Nate Silver of 538 – have released the latest appearance on the electoral map. And the picture they painted for Trump was terrible.

“With just under five months before the election, President Trump is a severe underdog for re-election,” Walter wrote, which placed 248 voters solid or leaning towards Biden and 204 solid or leaning towards Trump.

“To win the Electoral College, Biden needs to win only 26 percent of the state / district of Toss Up, while Trump needs to win more than 75 percent of them. In other words, Trump has less room for error, while Biden has a broader path to win. “

Silver analysis is similar.

“Overall – assuming states that have not been surveyed operate in the same way as they did in 2016 – Biden leads in the state with 368 electoral votes, while Trump leads in countries with a total of 170 electoral votes,” he wrote.
To be clear: Both Walter or Silver (or me) say the election is not complete or that Trump cannot win. In fact, while Silver suggests there is a possibility Biden can win in a “landslide” if all the states that currently exist go to him, “so does the Trump Electoral College victory, depending on how the race moves between now and November.

But what are they is saying is that the current election map is very favorable for Biden. It is not only the traditional Democratic states that Trump won in 2016 such as Michigan and Pennsylvania that seem to be returning to the Democratic column in 2020, but former Republicans like Arizona, North Carolina and maybe even Texas seem to really play for Biden.

All that gave the Democratic candidate, as Walter correctly noted, had more roads leading to the 270 electoral votes he needed to become the 46th president.

Street To do it still exists for Trump – mainly by holding two of the three Rust Belt states (Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin) and maintaining the status quo elsewhere on the map.

But there are more paths to Trump than to Biden. And with each passing week, the number of good election map options for Trump continues to shrink.

The gist: The best news for Trump is that Election Day is still far away. If the election were held today, he would be defeated convincingly – in the general election and the Electoral College.

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro Filipe Cunha, Artistic Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Braga, has been invited to conduct the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, as announced today.

According to a statement sent by O MINHO, “he will be the first Portuguese conductor to conduct this orchestra in its entire history.”

In addition to this orchestra, the maestro will also work with the Lyceo Mozarteum de la Habana Symphony Orchestra.

The concerts will take place on 4 and 12 March 2023 at the National Theater of Cuba in Havana.

In the words of the maestro, quoted in the statement, “these will be very beautiful concerts with difficult but very complex pieces” and therefore he feels “very motivated”.

From the very beginning, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 will be performed by an Italian pianist (Luigi Borzillo), whom the maestro wants to bring to Portugal later this year. In the same concert, Mendelshon’s First Symphony will be performed.

Then, at the second concert, in the company of the Mexican clarinetist Angel Zedillo, he will perform the Louis Sfora Concerto No. 2. In this concert, the maestro also conducts Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony.

“This is an international recognition of my work. An invitation that I accept with humility and great responsibility. I was surprised to learn that I would be the first Portuguese member of the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra. This is a very great honor,” the maestro said in a statement.

“I take with me the name of the city of Braga and Portugal with all the responsibility that goes with it, and I hope to do a good job there, leaving a good image and putting on great concerts. These will be very special concerts because, in addition to performing pieces that I love, especially Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, I will be directing two wonderful soloists who are also my friends. It will be very beautiful,” concludes Filipe Cunha.
