Strong winds destroyed the windmill at the Lucillo wind farm in Spain

Published

A 75-meter wind turbine has completely collapsed at the Lucillo wind farm in the municipality of Santa Colomba de Somoza, Spain.

Wind turbine collapse

According to information received ileon digital diary the wind turbine was completely destroyed, as seen in the pictures, in the area where the events took place, there are four wind farms with wind turbines of identical technology.

The five wind farms Cerro Becerril, El Pedrón, La Mallada and Lucillo have an installed capacity of around 120 MW and were commissioned in 2007/2008. and operated by EDP Renewables.

The wind turbines of these wind farms represent the first generation of large wind turbines that were built in the province of León, Spain, with the turbine manufacturer being Ecotecnia, which was Spanish at the time, and later acquired by Alstom Wind and in 2015 by GE General Electric.

As far as we know, this was the first case of a wind turbine accident in the province of León.

The area is currently experiencing a new wind energy boom with several requests for new wind turbines scattered across the province, with some of these license requests being close to where the incident now took place.

The wind turbines in the wind farms in question are already approaching the end of their original lifespan (20 to 25 years), which is the average for wind power.

Weather conditions may have been the main reason

The reasons that led to this event are being assessed by the responsible persons, and, apparently, the windmill collapsed due to the rupture of the tower.

Although the reasons for the destruction of the windmill have not yet been reported, presumably the main cause of the accident could be a strong wind.

In the area where the wind farms are located, very unfavorable weather conditions were recorded, namely with strong wind speeds, with a new record wind energy production on November 21 with an instantaneous generation of 20,594 MW.

The first Dacia hybrid. "The cheapest hybrid family on the market"

BUT Dacia revealed this Monday that the hybrid engine has been available since March on the Jogger, the Romanian brand’s model known to be available with a seven-seat variant.

The Jogger Hybrid 140, Dacia’s first hybrid, will hit dealerships in March, but customers can expect and order it as early as January.

The price has been revealed by Dacia and since it’s only available in the seven-seater SL Extreme, it starts at €28,800. The brand claims it is “the most affordable hybrid family car on the market.”

Available in six existing colors to celebrate the launch of this hybrid, there will be a slate gray version, as you can see in the images above.

Equipped with a 1.6 liter four-cylinder petrol engine with 90 hp, the Jogger is also powered by two electric motors (a 50 hp engine and a high-voltage starter-generator). The total power is 140 horsepower. The electric transmission is automatic, four-speed, connected to an internal combustion engine, and two speeds are connected to an electric motor. This combined technology was possible, according to Dacia, only due to the lack of clutch.

Combined with the energy recovery levels of the 1.2kWh (230V) battery pack and the efficiency of the automatic transmission, regenerative braking delivers all-electric traction on 80% of urban journeys and saves up to 40% of fuel compared to a combustion engine vehicle.
