Elon Musk and SpaceX took their hottest action towards Mars and the stated aim of generating humanity a multi-planetary species … by capturing a giant steel thermos into the Texas sky Tuesday night.

The corporation done an virtually 500-foot (150 meter) “hop” of its SN5 Starship prototype at its Boca Chica improvement facility at 5 p.m. PT.

The almost 9-tale-tall examination craft ignited its one Raptor engine and bit by bit rose into the air ahead of then carefully returning to the floor and landing upright not considerably from exactly where it took off.

For a moment just after the engine first ignited, it looked as if SN5 was struggling to get airborne, but then it rose over its possess smoke, hovered and arrived in for a tender landing. It traveled just a little fraction of the far more than 35 million miles Musk hopes the ultimate Starship will traverse to just take human beings to Mars.

The extended-awaited reduced-altitude exam flight arrives immediately after a handful of preceding prototypes unsuccessful with no ever leaving the ground, mainly in the course of pressurization checks.

SN5 is developed to be able to carry out an orbital flight, but right before pushing toward house, it 1st had to entire this comparatively little hop.

The around 98-foot-tall (30 meter) motor vehicle is a stripped-down version of what the last Starship spacecraft will appear like, without the need of the nose cone or fins. It can be 30 ft (9 meters) extensive and it truly is basically a fuel tank and a single Raptor motor topped with a fat that simulates a payload. The resulting form is one thing like a thermos lots of will identify.

Musk tweeted this footage of the start late Tuesday:

It is been a massive August for SpaceX presently, with the company’s Crew Dragon spacecraft successfully returning NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley from the Global House Station and splashing down in the Gulf of Mexico in excess of the weekend.

“Mars is wanting serious,” Musk tweeted soon after the hop.

Mad to think that interplanetary vacation may possibly begin with this quick and weird-looking flight. Won’t be able to hold out to see the next big stage on this extended journey.

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro Filipe Cunha, Artistic Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Braga, has been invited to conduct the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, as announced today.

According to a statement sent by O MINHO, “he will be the first Portuguese conductor to conduct this orchestra in its entire history.”

In addition to this orchestra, the maestro will also work with the Lyceo Mozarteum de la Habana Symphony Orchestra.

The concerts will take place on 4 and 12 March 2023 at the National Theater of Cuba in Havana.

In the words of the maestro, quoted in the statement, “these will be very beautiful concerts with difficult but very complex pieces” and therefore he feels “very motivated”.

From the very beginning, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 will be performed by an Italian pianist (Luigi Borzillo), whom the maestro wants to bring to Portugal later this year. In the same concert, Mendelshon’s First Symphony will be performed.

Then, at the second concert, in the company of the Mexican clarinetist Angel Zedillo, he will perform the Louis Sfora Concerto No. 2. In this concert, the maestro also conducts Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony.

“This is an international recognition of my work. An invitation that I accept with humility and great responsibility. I was surprised to learn that I would be the first Portuguese member of the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra. This is a very great honor,” the maestro said in a statement.

“I take with me the name of the city of Braga and Portugal with all the responsibility that goes with it, and I hope to do a good job there, leaving a good image and putting on great concerts. These will be very special concerts because, in addition to performing pieces that I love, especially Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, I will be directing two wonderful soloists who are also my friends. It will be very beautiful,” concludes Filipe Cunha.
