Casildo Joao Maldaner was born on April 2, 1942 in Carasinho, Rio Grande do Sul. He is the firstborn of nine children of Andreas and Erica Braum Maldaner. After the parties ended in 1966, Casildo joined the MDB. The party led by Santa Catarina and of which he was honorary president until his death.

He was a member of the Santa Catarina Legislature in the 8th Legislature (1975-1979) and the 9th Legislature (1979-1983). He was a member of the Chamber of Deputies of the 47th Legislature (1983-1987). During his first term in Brasilia, he reached out to PMDB national leaders such as Ulysses Guimaraes, as his party’s first national executive secretary. Without a mandate, Casildo became president of the PMDB in Santa Catarina.

He was elected Senator of the Republic and served from 1995 to 2003. In 2006, he was elected First Deputy Senator Raimundo Colombo (DEM-SC) PMDB. He was director of the Far South Regional Development Bank until January 2011, when Colombo resigned from his mandate to take over the Santa Catarina government and Maldaner took his Senate seat again.
