Almost 20 years after the publication of the list of “500 best songs of all time”, the American magazine Rolling Stone has updated its famous rating. The selection was based on the votes of over 250 artists, musicians and producers, as well as critics and journalists related to the music industry, and each sent a rating with the best 50. Aretha Franklin’s Respect tops the list.

Of the four thousand songs, the magazine chose the 500 best of all time. According to Rolling Stone, more than half – 254 – were not on the original list, published in 2004. “The result is a broader and more inclusive view of pop, music that continues to rewrite its history with every beat,” the magazine writes.

This is the top 10.

1. “Respect,” Aretha Franklin (1967)
2- “Fighting Power”, Public Enemy (1989)
3- “Change Is Coming,” Sam Cooke (1964)
4 Like a Rolling Stone by Bob Dylan (1965)
5- “Smells like a teenager’s spirit”, Nirvana (1991)
6.“What’s going on? ”, Marvin Gaye (1971)
7. “Strawberry Fields Forever”, The Beatles (1967)
8. ‘Get ur freak on’ by Missy Elliott (2001)
9. “Dreams,” Fleetwood Mac (1977)
10- ‘Hey ya!’, Outkast (2003).

In telling the story of Respect, Rolling Stone recalls that the song “was a catalyst for rock and roll, gospel and blues to create the model of soul music that artists continue to strive for today.”
