Emerson Wormsy recalls that the governor has always pulled votes since he was first elected as a state deputy at the age of 21 in 2002. And at other points in his career, he suffered prejudice from the state’s economic and conservative elite when he ran for Mayor of Curitiba in 2012 and lost to Gustavo Fruet (PDT). “This economic group, which is currently with the governor, is more opportunistic than relevant for Ratinho Jr. I say this because his political career spans over two decades. With Ratinho Jr.’s easy first-round victory, the analyst believes the re-elected governor is eligible for one of two Senate seats in 2026, but Cervi doesn’t see the feasibility of a national projection to the point of aspiring to the office of President of the Republic, or vice versa, at this point. “Ratinho Jr. is not just the result of the Bolsonarist wave, he has a political career that can be long-term. But it’s hard to have a person from Parana with a national projection, because the state has only 6% of the national electorate. .”
