Raheem Mostert requests trading from 49ers

San Francisco 49ers breakout star Raheem Mostert has asked for a trade from the team after being unable to renegotiate his contract.

Brett Tessler’s agent announced the request on Wednesday after talks with the 49ers failed to produce a new agreement to replace the three-year contract signed by Mostert in 2019 when he was still largely a prominent team.

“After months of unproductive talks with 49ers about the fairly fair adjustment of Raheem Mostert’s contract (which pays for a special team) we have asked for trade,” Tessler wrote on Twitter. “It’s disappointing that this will happen to a man who leads all NFL RBs at YPC & helps guide them to the Super Bowl.”

Mostert has a base salary of $ 2,575,000 this season and $ 2,875,000 next season as part of an agreement he signed with 49ers last year. Fellow running back Tevin Coleman will be paid $ 4.55 million this season despite having more than six brought only once in the last five games of the regular season and three playoff appearances after Mostert emerged as the team’s top back.

The 49ers already traded running back Matt Breida to Miami earlier this offseason, leaving Mostert, Coleman, Jerick McKinnon and Jeff Wilson as veteran midfielders on the list. McKinnon missed the last two seasons with a knee injury.

After being cut by six teams and only carrying the ball eight times during his first three seasons in the NFL, Mostert was an important part of the San Francisco NFC Championship in its fifth year in 2019.

He led the 49ers in rushing with 772 yards and ranked second in the NFL to the Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson with an average of 5.64 yards per carry.

Mostert gave a typical performance from his career on the big stage of an NFC championship match when he ran for 220 yards and four goals in a 37-20 win over Green Bay that sent Niner to the Super Bowl. Only Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson rushed for more playoff games, with 248 for the Rams against Dallas on January 4, 1986.

Mostert ran for 773 yards and 12 TDs in his last 10 matches combined in the regular and postseason, easily surpassing his modest career total before that point.

He hopes to have a major role this year and wants to be compensated for it.
