The position was set out by Socialist MP Jamila Madeira during a speech on the first day of the debate on the specifics of the OE2022 proposal in Parliament.

“We can already say that we will endorse proposals from this broad political spectrum, and in doing so, we believe that we will continue to help strengthen the voice of this budget, never but never jeopardizing budget stability, nor jeopardizing the principle of good public accounts. , correct calculations,” the parliamentarian said.

During her early morning speech, Jamila Madeira said that the budget amendment proposals submitted by PS follow the principle of budgetary responsibility.

“This is how we assessed the amendments proposed by the opposition, seeking to provide solutions to the problems of the country, and adding to this budget also the vision of all democratic parties in this parliament,” he stressed.

He also listed proposals submitted by the pro-government party as examples of measures such as export credit insurance, combating tax planning abuses, protecting sectors most affected by the energy crisis, strengthening the role of municipalities and decentralization.

However, similar to what members of the government defended, he argued that “only with the right reports do we have other tools to proceed”, adding that “less debt means less taxes and more strengthening of social policy in the future”. .

The agreement was approved by a supermajority at a ministerial meeting of member states in Brussels, Belgium, after months of discussions about the best way to contain the rise in natural gas prices in the bloc caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. .

The value set by the countries is well below the proposal made by the European Commission, the EU’s executive body, in November: 275 EUR/MWh. However, the countries leading the cap campaign were in favor of an even lower limit, around 100 EUR/MWh.

Germany, always wary of price controls, voted in favor of 180 euros, while Austria and the Netherlands, also skeptical of the cap, abstained. Hungary, the most pro-Russian country in the EU, voted against.
