Protesters installed guillotines in front of Jeff Bezos's home in DC

Protesters set up a guillotine outside the Washington, DC complex where Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos lives, according to the report.

Several videos circulating on social media showed what resembled equipment known to be decapitating during the French Revolution in a residential area in the country’s capital. A sign said: “Support our poor community. Not our rich people. “

It was not immediately clear whether Bezos was in DC this weekend.

His main residence is in the state of Washington, where he founded what grew into a colossal e-commerce company in 1994. He is now one of the richest people in the world with a net worth of around $ 160.8 billion, according to Forbes.

He also sometimes lives in upper-class Manhattan neighborhoods that are popular with celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez.

One video shows a female protester in DC with his face covered calling a megaphone: “When they become threatened, and we don’t have a voice, a knife comes out.”

Digital leaflets circulate online, entitled “Abolish the present. Reconstruction of our future,” name the DC complex and advertise the event there Sunday night from 4-8 nights.

“Amazon works directly with the police to monitor us, triggering racist fears in the name of profit. Doubling the disappearance of unions and mistreatment of workers, Amazon fired and racist slandered organizer, Chris Smalls, “the message claimed. “Join us to let Jeff Bezos be enough!”

“END OF ABUSE AND COMPLAINTS. Destroy the POLICE, PRISON AND AMAZON, “he concluded.

Smalls, an Amazon employee for five years, was fired earlier this year after reportedly stopping work at the company’s warehouse in Staten Island, N.Y., to protest the lack of personal protective equipment and hazard payments during the corona virus pandemic, The Guardian reports.

Amazon said Smalls was fired for “violating social distance guidelines and jeopardizing the safety of others.”

Bezos said on Instagram earlier this month that he was “happy to lose” customers who did not support Black Lives Matter.

Amazon has joined a list of companies demanding accounting for institutional racism after the death of George Floyd, a black man who died after a Minneapolis police officer knelt at his neck when he was handcuffed.

In the days following Floyd’s death, the company posted a note saying in part: “We believe Black life is important. We stand in solidarity with our black employees, customers and partners, and are committed to helping build a country and world where everyone can live with dignity and free from fear. “

Bezos can testify before Congress as soon as this summer when the company faces antitrust surveillance on Capitol Hill. He is one of the few Silicon Valley executives who have not testified before Congress in recent years – Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Apple CEO Tim Cook and Google CEO Sundar Pichai have all been called to testify and make appearances.

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro Filipe Cunha, Artistic Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Braga, has been invited to conduct the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, as announced today.

According to a statement sent by O MINHO, “he will be the first Portuguese conductor to conduct this orchestra in its entire history.”

In addition to this orchestra, the maestro will also work with the Lyceo Mozarteum de la Habana Symphony Orchestra.

The concerts will take place on 4 and 12 March 2023 at the National Theater of Cuba in Havana.

In the words of the maestro, quoted in the statement, “these will be very beautiful concerts with difficult but very complex pieces” and therefore he feels “very motivated”.

From the very beginning, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 will be performed by an Italian pianist (Luigi Borzillo), whom the maestro wants to bring to Portugal later this year. In the same concert, Mendelshon’s First Symphony will be performed.

Then, at the second concert, in the company of the Mexican clarinetist Angel Zedillo, he will perform the Louis Sfora Concerto No. 2. In this concert, the maestro also conducts Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony.

“This is an international recognition of my work. An invitation that I accept with humility and great responsibility. I was surprised to learn that I would be the first Portuguese member of the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra. This is a very great honor,” the maestro said in a statement.

“I take with me the name of the city of Braga and Portugal with all the responsibility that goes with it, and I hope to do a good job there, leaving a good image and putting on great concerts. These will be very special concerts because, in addition to performing pieces that I love, especially Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, I will be directing two wonderful soloists who are also my friends. It will be very beautiful,” concludes Filipe Cunha.
