The Ambassador of Portugal praised the “remarkable and exemplary” role of the Portuguese in the construction of Venezuela and spoke about the future of the host country, stressing that after the storm comes the calm.

“Your role in the construction of Venezuela was remarkable, it was exemplary, and it was also decisive for the good name of Portugal on this earth,” said João Pedro de Vasconcelos Fins do Lago.

The Ambassador spoke at the Centro Português Caracas to several hundred Portuguese on the occasion of local Madeira Autonomous Region (RAM) Day celebrations from Friday to Monday in several Venezuelan states.

The diplomat also emphasized that the importance of Portugal in Venezuela is due to the importance of the Portuguese community, highlighting the difficulties of recent years, from the economic crisis to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The Portuguese community, which originated in Madeira, has something to say about the future of this country, but they also have words about the future of Portugal and the future of RAM. And speaking of the future, I want to leave you a few words of hope, calm after the storm, and calm, hopefully, at the door. “The name of Madeira has a special meaning for Venezuela,” added the ambassador, who also praised the “will to win” of the Portuguese community, as well as “support, leaving no compatriot behind” and sharing the successes achieved.

For his part, Wilder da Silva, representative of the Madeira Day Commemoration Committee in Venezuela, emphasized the “great spirit of struggle, work, honesty and respect” of the Portuguese in Venezuela, with a “strong conviction to support” the locals. development. .

“They came to stay and start a family, to pass on the customs, traditions and values of our dear Madeira (…) Today, due to different circumstances, some have had to return and others have to start a new adventure, and although history has now changed, we are always the same same people, good people,” he said.

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro Filipe Cunha, Artistic Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Braga, has been invited to conduct the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, as announced today.

The concerts will take place on 4 and 12 March 2023 at the National Theater of Cuba in Havana.
