The PCP’s decision marks the end of the leadership cycle of Jeronimo de Souza, who turns 18 on November 27.
Nearly two decades later, Jeronimo de Souza’s career as general secretary of the Communist Party of Portugal is coming to an end. According to a statement sent by the party, Paulo Raimundo is the name that will be proposed for the post of the next general secretary of the PKP.
The PKP Central Committee will hold a meeting next Saturday, November 12, after the first day of the National Conference, at which it has already announced that it will put forward a proposal for the election of Paulo Raimundo as PKP General Secretary.
“Paulo Raimundo belongs to the younger generation, his life path is marked by diverse experiences, abilities, inclusion in a team, prepared for responsibility that links the social dimension with communication, contact and identification with the workers and the masses and with the party, its organizations and activists”, the party writes.
The decision marks the end of the leadership cycle of Jeronimo de Souza, who turns 18 on November 27. His successor, Paulo Raimundo, has been a member of the Portuguese Communist Party since 1994 and an official since 2004.
He worked as a carpenter, baker and cultural animator at Associação Cristã da Mocidade in Bela Vista. “The realities that allowed him to experience the contradictions of everyday life, the reality of low-paid work, exploitation and insecurity,” writes PCP.
