No social distancing, few masks as crowd awaits Trump rally in Nevada

Facebook and Twitter have twice put a warning label on Trump's voting posts

When the gates to a rally in Minden, Nevada, opened shortly before 5:00 pm local time, hundreds of people rushed forward, grabbing chairs and squeezing in as Elton John and Queen’s music echoed through the hall. Rally protesters queued for hours to get to the airport rally, which is held on the runway of a general aviation field.

Trump supporter Maria Einkluz said she was delighted to be joining the large crowd to hear the president speak. She said she feels safe and rejects the idea of wearing masks because she doesn’t think the pandemic is as serious as health experts say.

“I see masked people on the street avoiding getting close to other people – it’s sad. We have to be out of the house and interact, that’s how we become immune. We need to develop immunity, ”Einklu said.

When asked if she was worried about being infected with the virus, she said no.

“Eight months have passed – I think I have immunity. And if I get this, I will go to the hospital for a few days. It’s not that bad, ”Einklu said.

Before Trump’s arrival, the area near the stage was filled to capacity, but the entire venue was not full. The air in the area has been unhealthy due to the ongoing California wildfires.

The campaign has previously offered vague explanations of how it will stick to Nevada’s Covid-19 mitigation protocols during rallies the president plans to hold this weekend.

Trump’s recent campaign events have violated state mandates adopted to stop the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. Trump’s rally North Carolina on Tuesday violated a demand by Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper to limit meetings to 50 people. The president and most of his supporters also did not wear masks, despite the statewide ban on masks in North Carolina.
And at the rally in Michigan earlier this week, attendees were not wearing face masks, which was one of the few proven ways to mitigate the spread of Covid-19.

Specifically asked if the campaign plans to limit the number of people who will be allowed to the rally, a campaign spokesman said: “Each participant will pass a temperature check before admission, they will be given a mask that they are encouraged to wear and have access to a large number disinfectants for hands. “

But health experts have emphasized that people can still spread the virus even if they have no symptoms like fever, making it even more important to wear a mask.

Douglas County Commissioner Dave Nelson told CNN by phone Friday night that they only had eight cases of coronavirus in the county, and he was “confident people will use common sense” and that “Douglas County is conservative and proud to host the president “.

Despite warnings of crowds leading to further spread of the virus, Trump continues to hold rallies. The next one is scheduled for Sunday in Henderson, Nevada.

Ryan Nobles and CNN’s Glen Daisy contributed to this report.

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro Filipe Cunha, Artistic Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Braga, has been invited to conduct the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, as announced today.

According to a statement sent by O MINHO, “he will be the first Portuguese conductor to conduct this orchestra in its entire history.”

In addition to this orchestra, the maestro will also work with the Lyceo Mozarteum de la Habana Symphony Orchestra.

The concerts will take place on 4 and 12 March 2023 at the National Theater of Cuba in Havana.

In the words of the maestro, quoted in the statement, “these will be very beautiful concerts with difficult but very complex pieces” and therefore he feels “very motivated”.

From the very beginning, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 will be performed by an Italian pianist (Luigi Borzillo), whom the maestro wants to bring to Portugal later this year. In the same concert, Mendelshon’s First Symphony will be performed.

Then, at the second concert, in the company of the Mexican clarinetist Angel Zedillo, he will perform the Louis Sfora Concerto No. 2. In this concert, the maestro also conducts Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony.

“This is an international recognition of my work. An invitation that I accept with humility and great responsibility. I was surprised to learn that I would be the first Portuguese member of the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra. This is a very great honor,” the maestro said in a statement.

“I take with me the name of the city of Braga and Portugal with all the responsibility that goes with it, and I hope to do a good job there, leaving a good image and putting on great concerts. These will be very special concerts because, in addition to performing pieces that I love, especially Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, I will be directing two wonderful soloists who are also my friends. It will be very beautiful,” concludes Filipe Cunha.
