A photograph of Princess Latifa bint Mohammed al-Maktoum, daughter of the ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, appears to prove she is alive.

This is Princess Latifa’s first appearance since videos were released claiming she was a hostage against her will in the “villa”. [empreendimento] under the constant supervision of the police.

According to the BBC, the photo shows Princess Latifah in Dubai’s Mall of the Emirates (MoE), sitting with two other women.

Friends of Latifa told the TV channel that they recognize the two women and that Latifa knows them.

The image was posted to both women’s Instagram accounts, but does not include metadata that would show the date and time, or the exact time and place where the photo was taken.

What happened to Princess Latifa?

Latifah, one of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s 25 children, tried to flee Dubai in February 2018.

In a video recorded shortly before her departure, the princess explained that her life was extremely limited. “I haven’t left the country since 2000. I asked a lot to just travel, study, do something normal. I am not allowed, ”he said.

The escape attempt was in vain. A week later, during a daring sea voyage across the Indian Ocean, the princess was caught by special forces, who returned her to Dubai.

In February 2021, the BBC aired a video secretly recorded by Princess Latifa and shared with friends overseas, in which she described her captivity and imprisonment after returning to Dubai.

According to the princess, she was kept alone, with no access to medical or legal assistance, in a “villa” whose windows and doors were locked and guarded by the police.

Fears have been raised in the international community about the death of Princess Latifa, which her family has repeatedly denied.

In April, UN spokeswoman Martha Hurtado said the United Arab Emirates had not provided convincing evidence that she was still alive.
