NASA astronauts make a second space trip to increase power station space

NASA astronauts make a second space trip to increase power station space

Wednesday’s space trip starts at 7:13 ET.

The two astronauts are veteran space supervisors. This is the eighth attempt outside of Cassidy and Behnken, according to NASA.

Behnken, along with NASA astronaut Doug Hurley, was launched from the United States and joined Cassidy on the space station on May 31. They were on top of the Dragon SpaceX crew during the Demo-2 mission.

This spacecraft is the culmination of a series of power increases that began in January 2017 to replace nickel-hydrogen batteries with new lithium ion batteries.

This spacecraft, similar to what happened last Friday, will focus on replacing a battery for one of the power lines at the far post of the station. Because astronauts completed several tasks for this spacewalk last week, they will also focus on tasks scheduled for later spacewalks, power routes and ethernet cables, and do other preparations for future power system upgrades.

These cables will provide a better view of future space travel, according to NASA.

However, this increase in power system is meaningless like replacing the battery in your remote. Each new battery has a mass of 428 pounds.

For this second spacecraft, Cassidy will be a member of crew I and wear space clothes that show a red line, while Behnken will function as a member of crew II in a no-line suit. Hurley and Russian cosmonaut Ivan Vagner will help Cassidy and Behnken in their space suits. Hurley will operate the station’s robot arm to support astronauts outside the station.

The battery replacement, which will have a life span of 20 years, will put the station in a much better configuration for the long term, said Kenneth Todd, deputy program manager for the International Space Station, during a NASA press conference last week.

Behnken recently discussed space travel, and why it is important to replace batteries, during a call to the space station from CNN Innovation and Space Reporter Rachel Crane.

“When the space station is in the sun, it collects energy and needs to be stored in the dark,” he said. “And those batteries, because they repeatedly cycle, they wear out and need to be replaced. And periodic maintenance is needed.”

Behnken said he was looking forward to another experience in space.

“I am really looking forward to the view of Earth when we get a free moment,” he said. “I think every astronaut, when they go out in their first space, they really focus on efforts to complete all activities and do a good job so they might be able to get another chance if there is an opportunity.

“But after you have partnered and know what to expect when you pass it, it’s important to, you know, take some mental photos, some mental pictures, or remember what it’s like to be outside.”

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro Filipe Cunha, Artistic Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Braga, has been invited to conduct the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, as announced today.

According to a statement sent by O MINHO, “he will be the first Portuguese conductor to conduct this orchestra in its entire history.”

In addition to this orchestra, the maestro will also work with the Lyceo Mozarteum de la Habana Symphony Orchestra.

The concerts will take place on 4 and 12 March 2023 at the National Theater of Cuba in Havana.

In the words of the maestro, quoted in the statement, “these will be very beautiful concerts with difficult but very complex pieces” and therefore he feels “very motivated”.

From the very beginning, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 will be performed by an Italian pianist (Luigi Borzillo), whom the maestro wants to bring to Portugal later this year. In the same concert, Mendelshon’s First Symphony will be performed.

Then, at the second concert, in the company of the Mexican clarinetist Angel Zedillo, he will perform the Louis Sfora Concerto No. 2. In this concert, the maestro also conducts Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony.

“This is an international recognition of my work. An invitation that I accept with humility and great responsibility. I was surprised to learn that I would be the first Portuguese member of the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra. This is a very great honor,” the maestro said in a statement.

“I take with me the name of the city of Braga and Portugal with all the responsibility that goes with it, and I hope to do a good job there, leaving a good image and putting on great concerts. These will be very special concerts because, in addition to performing pieces that I love, especially Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, I will be directing two wonderful soloists who are also my friends. It will be very beautiful,” concludes Filipe Cunha.
