Mets reliever Brad Brach among those who haven’t been in Spring 2.0

Mets reliever Brad Brach among those who haven't been in Spring 2.0

Brad Brach’s absence at the Mets camp was confirmed Wednesday.

The veteran reliever hasn’t worked with the team since spring 2.0 training began on Friday, according to manager Luis Rojas, who said he would not give further details. The day before, Rojas confirmed that reliever Jared Hughes, signed last week, had not yet appeared at the camp.

It is unclear whether any players have tested positive for COVID-19 – through intake tests or since the camp began. But general manager Brodie Van Wagenen indicated before the intake test results had been accepted that a player on the 40-person list had previously tested positive for corona virus. The Mets did not comment on the player’s status for a disease not related to baseball.

Coach Bench Hensley Meulens, who missed the first four days of training, has been in the camp for the past two days. Chili Davis is the only coaching staff member absent – he was chosen to work from home in Arizona remotely due to coronavirus problems.

Jacob Rhame, who began camping with the Mets, was declared exempt from the Angels. The Mets added Ryley Gilliam’s right-hand pitcher to their player pool.

The Mets played their first intrasquad training, which lasted 2½ innings. Dellin Betances, Paul Sewald, Justin Wilson, Tyler Bashlor and Jeurys Familia all watched the action from the mound.

Rojas was asked about the Mets’ scheduled exhibition match against the Yankees on July 17 and 18. The first match was set for Citi Field, with the last at Yankee Stadium.

“I can’t wait to see the other teams,” Rojas said. “I am really excited to face the others [uniform]especially the team that we will see in the regular season six times, so it will be good for us. “

Maybe the Mets could add a third exhibition game.

Amed Rosario still not familiar with the safety protocols applied for training.

“It’s not comfortable, just in the sense of being so far from the players,” Rosario said through a translator. “This is one of the things that I have used throughout my career and now we can’t do it, it’s not comfortable.”

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro Filipe Cunha, Artistic Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Braga, has been invited to conduct the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, as announced today.

According to a statement sent by O MINHO, “he will be the first Portuguese conductor to conduct this orchestra in its entire history.”

In addition to this orchestra, the maestro will also work with the Lyceo Mozarteum de la Habana Symphony Orchestra.

The concerts will take place on 4 and 12 March 2023 at the National Theater of Cuba in Havana.

In the words of the maestro, quoted in the statement, “these will be very beautiful concerts with difficult but very complex pieces” and therefore he feels “very motivated”.

From the very beginning, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 will be performed by an Italian pianist (Luigi Borzillo), whom the maestro wants to bring to Portugal later this year. In the same concert, Mendelshon’s First Symphony will be performed.

Then, at the second concert, in the company of the Mexican clarinetist Angel Zedillo, he will perform the Louis Sfora Concerto No. 2. In this concert, the maestro also conducts Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony.

“This is an international recognition of my work. An invitation that I accept with humility and great responsibility. I was surprised to learn that I would be the first Portuguese member of the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra. This is a very great honor,” the maestro said in a statement.

“I take with me the name of the city of Braga and Portugal with all the responsibility that goes with it, and I hope to do a good job there, leaving a good image and putting on great concerts. These will be very special concerts because, in addition to performing pieces that I love, especially Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, I will be directing two wonderful soloists who are also my friends. It will be very beautiful,” concludes Filipe Cunha.
