Governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite (PSDB), denied trying to stop the vaccination campaign from being delayed. The politician said that he only passed on to the Governor of São Paulo João Doria (PSDB), conversation with the Minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency Luis Ramos

“This new, selective, political use of the vaccine is totally unacceptable. This is not only unfair, but also immoral, opportunistic, and unethical. It’s also petty. It also clearly relates to the prospect of winning PSDB meetings, ”he said. said today at a press conference.

Leite said that this “factoid” was created in connection with an election dispute and that the situation was distorted. For the governor of the RS, history arose and was supported by opponents from all sides.

For him, this is an attempt to avoid winning the preliminary party selection, scheduled for next Sunday (21). But there are also fears on the part of opponents from the “left”, because they understand that his candidacy is “the most competitive next year”.

Like Doria and former Manaus mayor Arthur Virgilio, Leite participates in PSDB factions to run for President of the Republic in the 2022 elections. Luis Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) and the current head of the Union, Jair Bolsonaro (no party).

Vaccination controversy

Without giving details about the call he received from the minister, Leite said that “he will never ask to postpone vaccinations in Brazil.” According to the governor, after calling and observing the climate in the country regarding vaccines, he decided to “establish contact” with Doria to try to achieve political reconciliation between the government of São Paulo and the federal government.

Leite mentioned that from late 2020 to early this year, in addition to the stalemate surrounding the acquisition or abandonment of CoronaVac by the Ministry of Health, there were sequential changes to schedules and calendars, both of which threatened the start of vaccinations. in Brazil. He also argued that Doria could have invited the Ministry of Health to the event to begin vaccinations this January.

The intention of the MS governor, despite differences with the Bolsonaro government, was to “build bridges” between those who made the vaccine possible and those who paid for it. And that, perhaps, for this reason, the minister saw in him a “channel of reconciliation.”
