Jed Lowrie harbors a mystery of injury after a full-go Mets practice

Luis Rojas described Jed Lowrie as a “full-go” for Sunday afternoon practice and simulation games. The Mets might wish there was another level he could get after Lowrie, wearing what he called a “functional” brace, carefully running the base and seemed to prefer his injured left side which was still a mystery.

But at least a veteran infielder who is often injured is on the pitch, getting two bats against direct pitching, trying to push past issues that make him absent as a Met.

“It’s frustrating. Obviously, it didn’t go as expected,” Lowrie, 36, said on Sunday night, Zooming a video call from Citi Field on the third day of spring 2.0 training. “But listen, I will focus on whatever is I can do and whatever they can ask me to do, because we have this 60-game sprint … My hope is that as I continue to do this strengthening exercise, I can increase the workload, but we have to play that day every day, see how it reacts, see how the treatment helps. “

Lowrie, who signed a two-year contract, $ 20 million before last season, danced about the injury he faced, saying he did not want to be a distraction. When it was suggested that the mystery of what had bothered him since spring training, 2019 could be a distraction, he said: “Listen, that’s something I will submit to Twitterverse. All I can say is that I do, as a professional, I do everything I able to get on the field. “

He refused to say what percentage he ran, even though he noted that running “was probably the activity I felt the most.”

If Lowrie does have a role in the Mets, it will likely be an occasional designated hitter or pinch, with Jeff McNeil expected to be the third daily baseman and Robinson Cano as the second regular baseman. Rojas and Brodie Van Wagenen’s general manager have suggested the use of Lowrie in DH as a possibility, even though he would be one of the many choices there.

Lowrie received only eight bat-times in his first season with the Mets, all as emergency hitters, and when spring training was suspended on March 12 because of a new coronavirus pandemic, he had not yet appeared in the exhibition game. While he has taken part in baseball activities, his belief is he will start the season on the list of injured due to lack of mobility. It is still uncertain whether that will be the case once this short season begins, although Lowrie at least tested Sunday’s legs, although in brace he believes he can play.

“I chose to come here. I want to be part of this organization and be part of something fun, “said Lowrie, who attacked and marched into the middle of the field with two at-bats against Dellin Betances. “That’s why I want to focus on the task at hand. We have this short game window and hopefully I can contribute to something cool. That’s why I came in here.”

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro Filipe Cunha, Artistic Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Braga, has been invited to conduct the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, as announced today.

According to a statement sent by O MINHO, “he will be the first Portuguese conductor to conduct this orchestra in its entire history.”

In addition to this orchestra, the maestro will also work with the Lyceo Mozarteum de la Habana Symphony Orchestra.

The concerts will take place on 4 and 12 March 2023 at the National Theater of Cuba in Havana.

In the words of the maestro, quoted in the statement, “these will be very beautiful concerts with difficult but very complex pieces” and therefore he feels “very motivated”.

From the very beginning, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 will be performed by an Italian pianist (Luigi Borzillo), whom the maestro wants to bring to Portugal later this year. In the same concert, Mendelshon’s First Symphony will be performed.

Then, at the second concert, in the company of the Mexican clarinetist Angel Zedillo, he will perform the Louis Sfora Concerto No. 2. In this concert, the maestro also conducts Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony.

“This is an international recognition of my work. An invitation that I accept with humility and great responsibility. I was surprised to learn that I would be the first Portuguese member of the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra. This is a very great honor,” the maestro said in a statement.

“I take with me the name of the city of Braga and Portugal with all the responsibility that goes with it, and I hope to do a good job there, leaving a good image and putting on great concerts. These will be very special concerts because, in addition to performing pieces that I love, especially Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, I will be directing two wonderful soloists who are also my friends. It will be very beautiful,” concludes Filipe Cunha.
