Statements of the Portuguese rider in an interview with the official website of the World Motorcycle Speed Championship.
Portuguese rider Miguel Oliveira (KTM) admitted this Thursday that he hopes to continue on the MotoGP grid in 2023 despite the future being “not decided yet”.
In an interview with the official website of the World Motorcycle Speed Championship, the rider from Almada revealed that he had not yet signed a contract “with any manufacturer”.
“This still needs to be finalized. I have not yet signed a contract with any manufacturer, but I believe that my future will be here at the World Cup,” said Miguel Oliveira.
The Portuguese rider, whose contract with KTM is ending at the end of this season, recalls that among those on the field, “there are still many riders who have not signed a contract.”
“It’s hard to keep your future in someone else’s hands or wait for someone else’s decision, but that’s the way it is. I am grateful to have been with KTM for so many years, I wish them the best of luck. my heart. Despite parting ways at the end of the year, I hope to do my best and still be on the podium in the second phase of the season,” he stressed.
Miguel Oliveira acknowledged that the Austrian brand “worked hard” to keep it, “but in Tech3 [a equipa satélite]”, he stressed.
“I said I don’t want to. I think the position in which I can best contribute and which I have earned with my results is in the factory team,” stressed Miguel Oliveira.
The Portuguese rider admits that “sometimes I really wanted to be on this project for a few more years and take the bike to the next level because it has so much potential.”
On the other hand, he admits that this could be an “opportunity” for him.
“It’s nice to sit with other builders and hear their opinion of me. I feel motivated to do what I can,” he said.
In this lengthy interview, Miguel Oliveira admitted that he doesn’t feel like a “superstar” despite being recognized “all over the country”.
“It’s not that I’m uncomfortable, but I don’t consider myself a superstar. But I am in my place among fans of great recognition and people like me for carrying the flag in the championship. This is a consequence of what we do, having this popularity. that I have the honor of being the only one, and I have no one to share this support with,” he joked.
The pilot says that since he got to the World Championships, “people talk more about this sport, which is good, but sometimes [isso] generates some misunderstandings and discussions on social media.”
“People talk and don’t know what they’re talking about, but they talk anyway, and that’s good,” he stressed.
On the other hand, he believes that he has “fans all over the country”, so “it would be difficult to walk down the street and people wouldn’t [o] recognize”.
Miguel Oliveira also promised to “complete a course” as a dentist “one day” and assured that his fatherhood gave him another reason to achieve good results.
“I was lucky to have stability and peace of mind with my wife. But with our daughter, we find ourselves in a completely different universe. I must count the time I am away and be fruitful. Since I am not watching her grow with her, I have to do something meaningful, ”said the Portuguese rider.
Miguel Oliveira also emphasized that “having a daughter cannot be associated with a loss of speed, unless it is a heart so soft that it thinks of a daughter in tears on a bicycle”, which, he guarantees, “does not happen to you.” .
This weekend will see the MotoGP German Grand Prix, the 10th round of the World Championship.
