Indian Grasshopper: New Delhi is on high alert after desert locusts swarm in nearby Gurgaon

Insects swept the city at 11:30 local time (2:00 ET), Atul Kapur, founder of the social company that lives in Gurgaon, told CNN. After 15 minutes, thousands of grasshoppers settled on the porch and roof of the house before being swept by strong winds.

The last time Kapur saw a mob in the city was at least 40 years ago, he said. “As children we used to call them” tiddi “and [we] will frighten them out loud, “Kapur, 56, told CNN.

In neighboring New Delhi, the Minister of Labor and Urban Development, Gopal Rai, share advice on Twitter, which states that all district judges in New Delhi are advised “to remain vigilant” because they are increasing efforts to control migration pests.

He added that staff would be mobilized to help guide residents and villagers on how to disperse locusts – perhaps by lighting crackers, “making high decibel sounds through drum beatings. [or] utensil, playing high volume music on a music system, “the adviser wrote.

Look for food

This happened weeks after the waves of desert grasshoppers – millions strong and stretching up to 7 kilometers (4 miles) long – crossed into the state of Rajasthan in western India from neighboring Pakistan in early May. The herd has since pushed to five different states to find food.

Grasshoppers have flown to India from their breeding areas in Pakistan, Om Prakash, a Rajasthan-based plant protection officer for the Locust Warning Organization, said previously in June.
June 20th Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) The United Nations says that India must remain vigilant for the next four weeks because “groups of adults and spring flocks continue to emerge along the Indo-Pakistan border, many of which have continued further east to several states in India. north because monsoon rains haven’t arrived in Rajasthan, India. “
Desert grasshoppers are one of the most destructive migratory pests because of their speed and ability multiply quickly. Adult grasshoppers can fly up to 150 kilometers (93 miles) a day and eat their own body weight – equivalent to 2 grams – the value of fresh vegetation in that period.
East Africa is watching the worst locust plague in decades, after climate change and conflict helped cause a revival of biblical pests. Spraying pesticides is the most effective way to kill grasshoppers, but the coronavirus pandemic has slowed efforts to deal with outbreaks in the African continent.

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro Filipe Cunha, Artistic Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Braga, has been invited to conduct the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, as announced today.

According to a statement sent by O MINHO, “he will be the first Portuguese conductor to conduct this orchestra in its entire history.”

In addition to this orchestra, the maestro will also work with the Lyceo Mozarteum de la Habana Symphony Orchestra.

The concerts will take place on 4 and 12 March 2023 at the National Theater of Cuba in Havana.

In the words of the maestro, quoted in the statement, “these will be very beautiful concerts with difficult but very complex pieces” and therefore he feels “very motivated”.

From the very beginning, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 will be performed by an Italian pianist (Luigi Borzillo), whom the maestro wants to bring to Portugal later this year. In the same concert, Mendelshon’s First Symphony will be performed.

Then, at the second concert, in the company of the Mexican clarinetist Angel Zedillo, he will perform the Louis Sfora Concerto No. 2. In this concert, the maestro also conducts Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony.

“This is an international recognition of my work. An invitation that I accept with humility and great responsibility. I was surprised to learn that I would be the first Portuguese member of the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra. This is a very great honor,” the maestro said in a statement.

“I take with me the name of the city of Braga and Portugal with all the responsibility that goes with it, and I hope to do a good job there, leaving a good image and putting on great concerts. These will be very special concerts because, in addition to performing pieces that I love, especially Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, I will be directing two wonderful soloists who are also my friends. It will be very beautiful,” concludes Filipe Cunha.
