How to move to a regulated market, step by step - Energy

After so many years of encouraging consumers to join the free energy market under European Union directives, observed sky-high prices, especially for natural gas, have prompted the government to recommend that consumers return to regulated tariffs. They are determined annually by the Energy Services Regulatory Authority (ERSE) but may be revised quarterly if prices on the Iberian Wholesale Market (Mibel) fall or rise sharply.

Until 2025, you can choose a regulated tariff for electricity, but in gas this option has been banned until now. The government will change this, and Environment Minister Duarte Cordeiro says that for now, “regulated tariff is a great support for cost containment for families, which in desperation for business even allows you to get around the increase in the price of gas and electricity.” How does this change take place in practice?

How do I know if I should change?
To begin with, you should look at your electricity bill and understand how much you are paying today for the energy you use. Find the listed price per kWh as well as the daily price per kWh charged for contracted capacity (i.e. the amount you pay for your panel’s “capacity”: 3.5kVA, 6.9kVA, or other). With these two elements in hand, you can compare them to other offerings on the market. Then you should call the current electricity and gas supplier and ask a few questions: is there any loyalty in the energy supply contract? How long is it valid? Are there additional services associated with it? Remember to ask for a cheaper offer than the one you currently have.

How are changes handled?
If your supplier does not offer Regulated Rate equivalent treatment, contact the Supplier of Last Resort (CUR) and sign an agreement with them. In gas, for now, a return to regulation is allowed only in exceptional cases, but soon it will be extended to everyone. Several Galp companies serve the CUR in the country, as well as EDP Gás Serviço Universal, Sonorgás and Tagusgás. In light of SU Electricidade and Goldenergy offer regulated rates.

What will my regulated account be like?
The ERSE simulator shows that for a family with two children with a simple tariff, a contracted capacity of 6.49 kVA and an annual consumption of 5000 kWh, the monthly electricity bill is 92.82 euros (1113.83 euros per year), which is the third most expensive on market. after Goldenergy (€91.91) and Endesa (€92.41). For this quarter, ERSE predicts a 2.6% decline in the price of electricity at a regulated tariff. For gas, the market price rose in July and will rise again by 3.9% in October. However, at the moment it is there that the lowest prices are: 24.11 euros per month for the same family living in Lisbon and consuming 3407 kWh (2nd level). This is followed by EDP (28.10 euros), whose prices have not yet made the jump announced by the company for October, and Goldenergy (32.35 euros).

The first Dacia hybrid. "The cheapest hybrid family on the market"

BUT Dacia revealed this Monday that the hybrid engine has been available since March on the Jogger, the Romanian brand’s model known to be available with a seven-seat variant.

The Jogger Hybrid 140, Dacia’s first hybrid, will hit dealerships in March, but customers can expect and order it as early as January.

The price has been revealed by Dacia and since it’s only available in the seven-seater SL Extreme, it starts at €28,800. The brand claims it is “the most affordable hybrid family car on the market.”

Available in six existing colors to celebrate the launch of this hybrid, there will be a slate gray version, as you can see in the images above.

Equipped with a 1.6 liter four-cylinder petrol engine with 90 hp, the Jogger is also powered by two electric motors (a 50 hp engine and a high-voltage starter-generator). The total power is 140 horsepower. The electric transmission is automatic, four-speed, connected to an internal combustion engine, and two speeds are connected to an electric motor. This combined technology was possible, according to Dacia, only due to the lack of clutch.

Combined with the energy recovery levels of the 1.2kWh (230V) battery pack and the efficiency of the automatic transmission, regenerative braking delivers all-electric traction on 80% of urban journeys and saves up to 40% of fuel compared to a combustion engine vehicle.
