Floating and breathtaking: the houses of the future are born in the middle of the sea - International

Exactly three months ago we took a look at the new Museum of the Future, in Dubai, which despite opening on February 22, 2022, predicts what we may have in a few years. At that time, we were at a loss and at the same time with the feeling that we were just a museum, where the future belongs to prototypes, and houses ocean builders, based in Panama, prove that this is already happening.

The company develops floating houses. Called Seapod and located in Panama, a country in Central America, they have one goal: to solve the housing shortage in popular beach destinations.

Designed by Rüdiger Koch, CTO of Ocean Builders, together with Managing Director Grant Romundt, the space requirement was reduced by placing several houses a few meters above sea level, providing all the benefits of proximity. . . .

Just imagine the dawn.

“There’s something magical about getting up in the morning, walking down the stairs, jumping on the surfboard and heading out for a workout,” says Grant Romundt, who lived on a houseboat in Toronto. CNN.

Those already under construction at Linton Bay Harbor, on Panama’s north coast, are capsules that will have about 73 square meters of living space, including a master bedroom, living room, kitchen and bathroom, spread over three levels. and a half, with floor-to-ceiling windows to fully enjoy the ocean view.

Swim 2.2 meters from the sea, The capsules are housed in over 47.7 cubic meters of air-filled steel tubes, designed to not interfere with marine life. – if it were not “the first eco-restoration houses in the world.”

The company explains that the houseboats act as “fish aggregation devices because whenever you put something in the water to shade it, it attracts marine life.” This will provide “a natural habitat for marine life and prosperity.”

“Now we are not perfect, but we are trying to get better and better,” says Grant Romundt. Therefore, sustainability is the cornerstone of this project, which uses technologies in this and other areas.

Here Siri on mobile is the whole house

The way to get to each SeaPod is inevitable: by boat, jet ski or local water taxi. No carbon-free spacecraft or teleportation options have yet been created to minimize the impact of fuel at sea, but other ideas make up for the few minutes to get to “the luxury of modern living.”

Here are some examples:

  • Special “Smart Rings” for opening doors and turning on music with a wave of the hand;
  • There’s a whole digital assistant in the house (and it’s not just Siri on cell phones);
  • Custom-made drones to deliver goods such as food and medicine, as well as “small everyday goods”;
  • Separate standalone vessel for larger shipments and ocean processing, trash and trash collection to keep the area clean.

With all this, the creators compare the SeaPod with the equipment of the giant Apple in terms of the high level of technology that they lay. “If Apple built a house, I think it would end up with a SeaPod, GreenPod or EcoPod,” said Grant Romundt.

The future is indeed here and the various Ocean Builders houseboats should start selling online in 2022. This means that those who manage to buy a house at an altitude of 2.2 meters above sea level – which costs between 295 thousand and 1.5 million dollars (slightly less in euros) – can move by the end of 2023.

Even if a purchase is out of the question, know what the future will be like.

The first Dacia hybrid. "The cheapest hybrid family on the market"

BUT Dacia revealed this Monday that the hybrid engine has been available since March on the Jogger, the Romanian brand’s model known to be available with a seven-seat variant.

The Jogger Hybrid 140, Dacia’s first hybrid, will hit dealerships in March, but customers can expect and order it as early as January.

The price has been revealed by Dacia and since it’s only available in the seven-seater SL Extreme, it starts at €28,800. The brand claims it is “the most affordable hybrid family car on the market.”

Available in six existing colors to celebrate the launch of this hybrid, there will be a slate gray version, as you can see in the images above.

Equipped with a 1.6 liter four-cylinder petrol engine with 90 hp, the Jogger is also powered by two electric motors (a 50 hp engine and a high-voltage starter-generator). The total power is 140 horsepower. The electric transmission is automatic, four-speed, connected to an internal combustion engine, and two speeds are connected to an electric motor. This combined technology was possible, according to Dacia, only due to the lack of clutch.

Combined with the energy recovery levels of the 1.2kWh (230V) battery pack and the efficiency of the automatic transmission, regenerative braking delivers all-electric traction on 80% of urban journeys and saves up to 40% of fuel compared to a combustion engine vehicle.
