Fernando Pimenta wants to "reinforce" his international medalist at the World Championships - Observer

Portuguese canoeist Fernando Pimenta wants to ‘strengthen’ his collection of international medals in Halifax by hosting four World Championship events to improve his training program of 115 international podiums.

I would like to increase my record a little more. But this is step by step. First, try to recover as much as possible after the trip and the jet lag, then fight for the finals, and then try to arrange a good sports spectacle and good mood to leave here with good results, ”he said, referring to Lusa.

A bronze medal at Tokyo 2020 in K1 1000, the limiano defends in Canada the world gold in this discipline, won in 2021 in Copenhagen, where he was also silver in a competition that took place shortly after the Olympics.

We have already started the season very well with medals at the World Cup, which has opened up good prospects for the work we are doing. It will be race after race in the world,” says the athlete, who will run the K1 500, 1000 and 5000, as well as the K2 500 in combination with Teresa Portela.

At the World Championships in Poznań, Poland, the 32-year-old canoeist won gold in exactly four disciplines, which he will be running in Halifax.while in Rachece, Czech Republic he won K1 1000 and K2 1000 and Joao Duarte took silver in K1 5000.

At the end of Tokyo 2020, the most successful Portuguese canoeist in history announced his desire to one day finish his career with three Olympic “metals”, now he lacks gold after silver in London 2012 in K2 1000 with Emanuel Silva.

Pimenta is already “focused” on Paris 2024, but he doesn’t see French competition as the last chance to do so, the end of the line, as Los Angeles 2028 is “only” four years later.

It’s step by step. Focus on this cycle first, and then see how I’m doing mentally and physically, how I’m holding up. It is very important to be emotionally motivated and continue to enjoy what I do, ”he emphasized.

Teresa Portela, the best canoeist in Portugal, is mainly focused on the Olympic K1500, but hopes to qualify for mixed K1 200 and K2 500 finals with his friend Fernando Pimenta.

It’s nice to be able to compete with him. If we get a medal it is always welcome, but that is not the purpose of this World Championship. be able to share [uma medalha] with Pimenta would also be the reward for all my travels over the years,” he suggested.

This contest, which will serve as a “pressure reliever”, does not divert the attention of Teresa Portela, who wants above all to “keep the world finals contest going on since 2010 consistent”.

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro Filipe Cunha, Artistic Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Braga, has been invited to conduct the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, as announced today.

According to a statement sent by O MINHO, “he will be the first Portuguese conductor to conduct this orchestra in its entire history.”

In addition to this orchestra, the maestro will also work with the Lyceo Mozarteum de la Habana Symphony Orchestra.

The concerts will take place on 4 and 12 March 2023 at the National Theater of Cuba in Havana.

In the words of the maestro, quoted in the statement, “these will be very beautiful concerts with difficult but very complex pieces” and therefore he feels “very motivated”.

From the very beginning, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 will be performed by an Italian pianist (Luigi Borzillo), whom the maestro wants to bring to Portugal later this year. In the same concert, Mendelshon’s First Symphony will be performed.

Then, at the second concert, in the company of the Mexican clarinetist Angel Zedillo, he will perform the Louis Sfora Concerto No. 2. In this concert, the maestro also conducts Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony.

“This is an international recognition of my work. An invitation that I accept with humility and great responsibility. I was surprised to learn that I would be the first Portuguese member of the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra. This is a very great honor,” the maestro said in a statement.

“I take with me the name of the city of Braga and Portugal with all the responsibility that goes with it, and I hope to do a good job there, leaving a good image and putting on great concerts. These will be very special concerts because, in addition to performing pieces that I love, especially Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, I will be directing two wonderful soloists who are also my friends. It will be very beautiful,” concludes Filipe Cunha.
