“Everything keeps moving in the right direction”

Some beaches in Florida are closed for the Fourth of July weekend due to coronavirus problems. However, that hasn’t happened to residents of St. Petersburg who have access to the beach within driving distance in their area.

Mayor Rick Kriseman said he thought that it was a policy that the region should consider.

“I think this is policy [the county officials] must be considered because we came to july 4th weekend. We knew it was always a busy time on our beach that weekend. “

Kriseman also criticized Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for not implementing current state-wide policies to combat the surge in cases, and instead, handed it over to the local government to take action on a number of issues such as closing beaches and wearing masks.

“This must be a state-wide policy, but we don’t have the current leadership of the administration and governor’s office,” he said. “If we are going to overcome it, we must act collectively, not just in bits and pieces, where each local government implements a policy.”

In further criticism, Kriseman said that DeSantis had been “very inaccessible” to the mayor in Florida, which was a barrier to statewide action against the virus.

“That is one of the frustrations that I and other mayors have in the entire state. The Governor is very inaccessible to all of us, so we haven’t had that conversation yet. I am certainly very vocal about the fact that I think it works best when it is a policy in the entire state and if we cannot have it then it is a policy in the entire state and if we cannot have it then every city, “he said. “But it really has to come down from the country.”

Kriseman also rejected DeSantis’s claim that the surge in cases was partly caused by a heap of tests.

“That explanation is absolutely ridiculous. What we see is the percentage of positive tests. So we have days where maybe we will have 1,500 tests done. Other days where we will have 3,500 tests carried out, but what really matters is what percentage of the tests being carried out are returning positive, “he explained.

St. Petersburg, Florida, experienced a 1.5% to 2% positive case rate on a rolling basis for two weeks in late April and early May. In the past two weeks, the rolling average has risen to 10%, he said.

“That is very confusing, and the explanation is not the number of tests. More people are exposed now. “

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro Filipe Cunha, Artistic Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Braga, has been invited to conduct the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, as announced today.

According to a statement sent by O MINHO, “he will be the first Portuguese conductor to conduct this orchestra in its entire history.”

In addition to this orchestra, the maestro will also work with the Lyceo Mozarteum de la Habana Symphony Orchestra.

The concerts will take place on 4 and 12 March 2023 at the National Theater of Cuba in Havana.

In the words of the maestro, quoted in the statement, “these will be very beautiful concerts with difficult but very complex pieces” and therefore he feels “very motivated”.

From the very beginning, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 will be performed by an Italian pianist (Luigi Borzillo), whom the maestro wants to bring to Portugal later this year. In the same concert, Mendelshon’s First Symphony will be performed.

Then, at the second concert, in the company of the Mexican clarinetist Angel Zedillo, he will perform the Louis Sfora Concerto No. 2. In this concert, the maestro also conducts Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony.

“This is an international recognition of my work. An invitation that I accept with humility and great responsibility. I was surprised to learn that I would be the first Portuguese member of the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra. This is a very great honor,” the maestro said in a statement.

“I take with me the name of the city of Braga and Portugal with all the responsibility that goes with it, and I hope to do a good job there, leaving a good image and putting on great concerts. These will be very special concerts because, in addition to performing pieces that I love, especially Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, I will be directing two wonderful soloists who are also my friends. It will be very beautiful,” concludes Filipe Cunha.
