Dr. Jairinho presents protection and asks the Rio Chamber for absolution.
Defense Counselor Jairo Souza Santos Junior, Dr. Jairinho, submitted a report this Friday, the 25th, asking for his acquittal in a process that could lead to the revocation of the Ethics and Decency Council of Rio City Council in January.
The politician has been in jail since April 8 on charges of the death in March of his stepson, 4-year-old Henry Borel. In the document, Jairinho’s lawyers argue that the counselor “was always a caring father, present, loved by his children and all family members, possibly” Henry. “
The text also describes the politician as “a charitable and charismatic person who has formed a legion of friends and admirers in the city council.” The defense also argues that the criminal case against him has not become final, and therefore he cannot be charged with violation of decency.
Rapporteur for the case, Luis Ramos Filho (PMN), recommended that Jairinho’s mandate be lost, saying the charge of violating parliamentary decency was based on “strong evidence of a representative’s involvement in a crime involving a minor.” Ramos Filho realized that there was a violation of decency, and cited among the arguments in favor of his vote “double skilled murder, torture, repeated physical attacks on a defenseless child, attempts to trade in influence and political exploitation in their own interests.”
In order for the report proposed to the Ethics Council to be adopted, four of the seven members must vote in favor of it at a meeting the following Monday, 28. Jairinho will lose his mandate if two-thirds of the plenary meeting of the Chamber, that is, 34 councilors, vote for it. impeachment, due on Wednesday, 30.
