A woman was shot dead and her boyfriend injured by a gunman who was reportedly concerned about how the couple told their dogs to defecate while walking in Denver on Wednesday.

The victims – identified in reports as Isabella Thallas, 21, and Darian Simon – were walking near Coors Field when 36-year-old suspect Michael Close had a fight with them from inside his apartment, The Denver Post reported.

“The suspect verbally disputed with the victims related to the victim who ordered his dog to defecate,” according to a statement of possible causes obtained by the newspaper.

Close reportedly asked the couple whether they would train their dogs or just scream, police said.

Simon told police that he tried to ignore Close before a gunshot could be heard, hit him twice and kill his girlfriend.

Police arrested Close Wednesday night when he was driving on a nearby highway, the report said. Rifles and pistols were found in his car, police said.

Thallas’s mother, Ana Thallas, mourns the death of her daughter in a Facebook post.

“Today we lost a daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece and friend,” Ana wrote. “God called him home and he rested in peace with Him.

“We ask that you respect our Isabella’s privacy and life by keeping this positive and loving.”

A GoFundMe page was founded to help cover the cost of Isabella’s funeral which rose by more than $ 45,000 in early Friday.
