Colin Powell said the President had “moved away” from the Constitution

If you are a white person in America, social justice educator Robin DiAngelo has a message for you: You are racist, pure and simple, and without a lifetime of effort you will always be aware.

You can’t help it, you know, because you’ve been wrapped in a cocoon of white privileges since you came out of your mother’s womb, protesting all that anger.

You might be stuttering right now at insulting your humanity – for how you can you become racist? You have a black colleague who you consider a friend; You don’t see skin color; You have never owned a slave; You march in the 60s; You even protested today against uniformed “bad apples” who used the power of their authority to destroy minority lives and minority rights.

CNN sat down with DiAngelo to ask his thoughts about the conversation surrounding today’s protests, how they entered into the history of the civil rights movement, and what white people need to do now. The conversation has been edited for flow and clarity.

Q: Is this the “Me too” moment for racial equality or will the conversation fail and fade as it did in the past?

DiAngelo: There are some things that I think are different about this moment. First, it is sustainable. It was not a journey, a protest. They are ongoing and spread throughout the world.

There was a discourse in the mainstream media that I thought I had never heard of in my life. We who have beaten this drum for years have finally heard expressions such as “systemic racism” used in mainstream media.

Number one and two books sold in the world today are about racism, one written by me, white people, and one written by Ibram X. Jug, black people. You can google “What can white people do now?” and you won’t be able to follow all the list of resources and excellent guides.

We hear discussions about reparations for African descendants who are enslaved at the Democratic debate stage. For the first time in history, I think, a recent poll shows that more white Americans believe that there are advantages to being white than not believing it.

This is a big breakthrough. But it needs to be maintained, and I’m a little worried about what happens when the camera leaves. This is where I remember Malcolm Gladwell’s tipping point theory: You only need 30%. And when I feel discouraged, I remember that because I thought “We got 30%. Let’s keep going.”

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

Maestro Filipe Cunha, Artistic Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Braga, has been invited to conduct the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, as announced today.

According to a statement sent by O MINHO, “he will be the first Portuguese conductor to conduct this orchestra in its entire history.”

In addition to this orchestra, the maestro will also work with the Lyceo Mozarteum de la Habana Symphony Orchestra.

The concerts will take place on 4 and 12 March 2023 at the National Theater of Cuba in Havana.

In the words of the maestro, quoted in the statement, “these will be very beautiful concerts with difficult but very complex pieces” and therefore he feels “very motivated”.

From the very beginning, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 will be performed by an Italian pianist (Luigi Borzillo), whom the maestro wants to bring to Portugal later this year. In the same concert, Mendelshon’s First Symphony will be performed.

Then, at the second concert, in the company of the Mexican clarinetist Angel Zedillo, he will perform the Louis Sfora Concerto No. 2. In this concert, the maestro also conducts Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony.

“This is an international recognition of my work. An invitation that I accept with humility and great responsibility. I was surprised to learn that I would be the first Portuguese member of the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra. This is a very great honor,” the maestro said in a statement.

“I take with me the name of the city of Braga and Portugal with all the responsibility that goes with it, and I hope to do a good job there, leaving a good image and putting on great concerts. These will be very special concerts because, in addition to performing pieces that I love, especially Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, I will be directing two wonderful soloists who are also my friends. It will be very beautiful,” concludes Filipe Cunha.
