By separating or not separating the artist from the work, here is the political issue that brought the Sergio Reis case to the agenda | Mauro Ferreira's blog

ANALYZE – Reflecting the polarization that puts artists and followers in sometimes opposing camps, the pop universe is increasingly debating an issue that has been raised by the controversial expressions of music stars regarding politics and the COVID-19 pandemic. To separate or not to separate the artist from the work is a political issue that drives the heated judgment of social media.

Eric Clapton’s fans around the world have expressed disappointment over the British guitarist’s negative comments about the pandemic and the vaccine.

In Brazil, a country where artists and audiences hold right or left positions in the political arena, this issue was raised on the agenda on Monday 16 August with singer Guarabira’s decision to withdraw from Sergio Reis’ next album – in which I would participate with the re-recording of the song little house (Luis Carlos Sa & Gutemberg Guarabira, 1977) – due to a leaked audio recording of Reis defending a truck stop to pressure the Senate to remove ministers from the Supreme Court.

Guarabira declared incompatibility with the political position of Sergio Reis. The next day, August 17, Guilherme Arantes appeared and stated that although he disagreed with Reis’s speeches, he would never demand the removal of the song recording. Water planet (Guilherme Arantes, 1981) of the singer’s album, so as not to mix “artistic landscape” with “non-musical landscape”.

The issue is controversial. It is a fact that any attack on democracy must be fought hard, under pain of the law, by anyone.

“Democracy is hard-won. Music is a democratic art. Therefore, I will never use my prestige to try to usurp our democratic system, ”said Renato Teixeira, the singer who recorded albums with Sergio Reis on Wednesday, August 18th. Sincere friendship (2010) e sincere friendship II (2015).

The question to be discussed is whether the work of an artist should be judged on the basis of that artist’s position in society. It is in this debate that the views of people on the same political side often diverge in favor of democracy.

In the case of music critics evaluating recordings and shows (work done by the observer in this space on the portal G1), the only acceptable way is honesty. When reviewing an album or show, it should only be about the work itself, assessed from the aesthetic point of view of each critic, without the influence of any other external factors.

In the case of artists, Guarabira’s position is legitimate. Also because many artists express themselves through their work and for this very reason have every right to reject any association with a colleague on the opposite side of the political field.

But it is also prudent, in the name of democracy itself, to avoid prior conviction in court of social media artists like Guilherme Arantes, who prefer to separate the work of colleagues from such “non-musical” issues.

Sergio Reis made a big mistake and must answer for the attack on democracy – by the way, 29 deputy attorneys general yesterday asked the prosecutor general of the Federal District to open an investigation into this case.

The question to be discussed is whether the punishment applied to a citizen in Justice and / or on social media should be extended to the artistic works created by that citizen throughout his life. As Renato Teixeira emphasized, music is a democratic art.

The dollar continues to reflect the political scenario

Yesterday, financial agents evaluated the opposite decision of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) regarding the so-called secret budget. In addition, a decision was made by STF Minister Gilmar Méndez to issue an injunction that would exclude the Bolsa Família from the spending cap rule, with investors trying to understand how this measure would affect the processing of the transitional PEC in the Chamber of Deputies. Oh this PEC!!!!

Since he is an exchange investor, any reading that the budget will be exceeded or become more flexible will negatively affect the exchange market, whether through the PEC or in any other way. We will continue with volatility today.

Looking beyond, the US Central Bank (Fed), although slowing down the pace of monetary tightening at its December meeting, issued a tougher-than-expected statement warning that its fight against inflation was not yet over, raising fears that rising US interest rates will push the world’s largest economy into recession.

The currency market continues to react to political news. The voting on the PEC is saved for today. It is expected that it will indeed be reviewed to open the way tomorrow for discussions on the 2023 budget.

Yesterday, the spot price closed the selling day at R$5.3103.

For today on the calendar we will have an index of consumer confidence in the eurozone. Good luck and good luck in business!!

Germany sentenced Russian to life imprisonment for political murder by order of Moscow - 12/15/2021
BRUSSELS, DECEMBER 19 (ANSA). European Union countries reached a political agreement on Monday (19) to impose a natural gas price ceiling of 180 euros per megawatt hour (MWh). The main sources of income for Russia and the minimization of the use of energy as a weapon by the regime of Vladimir Putin.

The agreement was approved by a supermajority at a ministerial meeting of member states in Brussels, Belgium, after months of discussions about the best way to contain the rise in natural gas prices in the bloc caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. .

The value set by the countries is well below the proposal made by the European Commission, the EU’s executive body, in November: 275 EUR/MWh. However, the countries leading the cap campaign were in favor of an even lower limit, around 100 EUR/MWh.

Germany, always wary of price controls, voted in favor of 180 euros, while Austria and the Netherlands, also skeptical of the cap, abstained. Hungary, the most pro-Russian country in the EU, voted against.

The instrument will enter into force on 15 February, but only if natural gas prices on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange exceed 180 euros/MWh for three consecutive days. In addition, the difference compared to a number of global benchmarks should be more than 35 euros.

Italy, the EU’s biggest supporter of the ceiling, has claimed responsibility for the measure. “This is a victory for Italy, which believed and worked for us to reach this agreement,” Environment and Energy Minister Gilberto Picetto tweeted.

“This is a victory for Italian and European citizens who demand energy security,” he added.

Currently, the gas price in Amsterdam is around 110 EUR/MWh, which is already a reflection of the agreement in Brussels – in August the figure even broke the barrier of 340 EUR/MWh.

However, Russia has already threatened to stop exports to countries that adhere to the ceiling. (ANSA).
