Brasileirão explores the Portuguese vein | Football
It looks like Brazil is leaning more and more towards learning a lot of Portuguese coaches. Atletico Mineiro, champion of Brazil, strives to find the perfect solution on this side of the Atlantic to fill Cook’s vacancy.
Jorge Jesus may not have been the first to cross the ocean, but the ex-Benfica player’s high-profile arrival at Vulture’s Nest in 2019 was decisive in ushering in a new era in Brazilian football with a strong Portuguese trend, and yet this has already led to a bet and the dedication of Abel Ferreira as two-time champion of Libertadores in the service of Palmeiras.
Paulo Sousa is the last trump card for the Flamengo players, who, having refused to save Jorge Jesus, whipped up the former coach of the Polish national team. Carlos Carvalyal, by the way, has long been a permanent name on the “menu” of Brazilian clubs. Those that have recently attracted helmsmen such as Jesualdo Ferreira (Santos), Sergio Vieira (Atlético Paranaense, among others), Antonio Oliveira (Atl. Paranaense), Augusto Inacio (Avay) and Ricardo Sa Pinto (Vasco da Gama) , if we talk only about the most media.
So, after the first moment of uncertainty, with Jorge Jesus banging on the radar but asking for time before moving on to the Minas Gerais emblem, the rooster chose Carlos Carvalyala from Braga as his priority target.
In an interview with Rádio Marca, the coach of Sp. Braga has publicly speculated about the approaches of emblems such as Flamengo and Atlético Mineiro. Polls that will always depend, and ultimately, on an agreement with the Minho club. In recent hours, this idea has gained a lot of strength and expression thanks to the spread of news regarding the highly publicized and even imminent move of Carlos Carvalyala to Belo Horizonte, which will definitely increase the trend for this investment in the “Portuguese school”. Only the amount of compensation for the immediate departure of the technician from Braga is being discussed.
Atlético would even be able to lower the bar to more realistic values - about two million euros. But S. Braga said through official channels that in the absence of a concrete proposal, the statements made by President Antonio Salvador after the end of the Portuguese Cup in Wiesel remain in force. In other words, Carlos Carvalyal will stay at Pedreira for the rest of the season!
Carlos Carvalyal, a Braga-born and “supporter” of the club who played as an athlete, is unlikely to take a position of strength in the name of self-interest. Not least because the cancellation of the League Cup and the Portuguese Cup does not cancel the work done, namely the emphasis on young values since the club’s inception.
While the Europa League is not far off on the horizon, a project in Sp. Braga is far from exhausted, although there is some frustration with the club leader that could help soften the negotiations. But to think that Braga no longer looks to the future – pay attention to the news of interest in Bruno Pinheiro, the coach of Estoril, who was on the verge of giving himself up to the Turks of Besiktas – would be sheer naivete, so even the news that in after all, Carlos Carvalyal – as happened with Flamengo – may already forget that the Brazilian adventure cannot be regarded as a fait accompli.
Football has an inexhaustible ability to refute predictions and even confirmed news, so until proven otherwise, the champions of Brazil can continue the path of the Portuguese name, capable of repeating the successes of Jesus and Abel.

Maestro de Braga is the first Portuguese in the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.
Maestro Filipe Cunha, Artistic Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Braga, has been invited to conduct the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, as announced today.
According to a statement sent by O MINHO, “he will be the first Portuguese conductor to conduct this orchestra in its entire history.”
In addition to this orchestra, the maestro will also work with the Lyceo Mozarteum de la Habana Symphony Orchestra.
The concerts will take place on 4 and 12 March 2023 at the National Theater of Cuba in Havana.
In the words of the maestro, quoted in the statement, “these will be very beautiful concerts with difficult but very complex pieces” and therefore he feels “very motivated”.
From the very beginning, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 will be performed by an Italian pianist (Luigi Borzillo), whom the maestro wants to bring to Portugal later this year. In the same concert, Mendelshon’s First Symphony will be performed.
Then, at the second concert, in the company of the Mexican clarinetist Angel Zedillo, he will perform the Louis Sfora Concerto No. 2. In this concert, the maestro also conducts Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony.
“This is an international recognition of my work. An invitation that I accept with humility and great responsibility. I was surprised to learn that I would be the first Portuguese member of the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra. This is a very great honor,” the maestro said in a statement.
“I take with me the name of the city of Braga and Portugal with all the responsibility that goes with it, and I hope to do a good job there, leaving a good image and putting on great concerts. These will be very special concerts because, in addition to performing pieces that I love, especially Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky, I will be directing two wonderful soloists who are also my friends. It will be very beautiful,” concludes Filipe Cunha.
