A man named Murilo Gomes stabbed a woman named Ana Victoria Cavalcanti from Friday to Saturday, 7. After the woman was killed, the man set fire to the apartment where she lived, and both died. This incident took place in the Boa Viagem area in the south of Recife.

According to the Diário de Pernambuco newspaper, Ana exchanged messages that morning warning of a breakup. The fire started at around 2:50 am and was contained by a joint action by the military fire department and the military police of Pernambuco.

Residents trapped by the detachments were rescued in time. Also, according to the newspaper, some of them inhaled smoke and needed Samu’s medical attention. The Pernambuco Civil Police said they were investigating the case. A police investigation was initiated to investigate the case.

Violence against women – what is it and how to report it?

Domestic and family violence is a form of human rights violation around the world. In Brazil, Law No. 11340, known as the Maria da Peña Law, characterizes and incorporates into the law five types of violence against women: physical, psychological, moral, sexual and ancestral.

Law 13.104 / 15 formulated the Feminicide Law – killing a woman just because she is a woman. The killing of women is often the sad end of the cycle of violence a woman experiences, so violence must be reported as soon as it occurs. The law considers that there are reasons for the condition of the female sex when the crime is related to domestic or domestic violence, contempt or discrimination against the status of women.
