“We are on the verge of reopening, and we don’t really care about Covid, being honest with you,” Flores said.
Two days later, he woke up with fever and body wounds, Flores told CNN Erin Burnett. A week later, he was in the hospital, where he used a breathing tube for a week.
Arizona has been one of the most severe areas in the pandemic recently, with cases soaring. The country has at least 84,093 people infected, up from 46,689 reported June 19.
That night at the bar, Flores said she was there with friends and “we just enjoyed our lives during that time,” he said.
The bar is full of 300 to 500 people, Flores said.
But days later, when the fever struck, “it was very bad. I knew something was wrong,” Flores said. His test for Covid-19 returned positive several days later.
His cough began when he took a deep breath, said Flores.
“Within 24 hours I could not take a small breath without fear for my life,” he said.
Before contracting the virus, Flores said, he was active, went to the gym and did not have a pre-existing condition.
“I never would have imagined in a million years that I would get this virus like I experienced it,” it became very sick about a week later, Flores said.
“When I decided to go to the hospital, I also decided to deliver this message to the public, because I knew I had made a mistake,” Flores said.
