The death of former Governor and former Senator of Santa Catarina Casildo Maldanera on Tuesday caused a stir among friends, politicians and organizations (17).

He died early in the morning at the age of 79 from brain cancer. The commemoration will be from 10 am, at Alesque (Legislative Assembly of Santa Catarina).

Maldaner’s brother and MDB State President, Federal MP Carlos Maldaner used the social network to pay tribute to the former governor. “It was an honor and pride for me to have a brother like Casildo, who, in addition to inspiring me, has always played the role of my advisor,” he said.

He was elected Lieutenant Governor in 1986 under the chairmanship of Pedro Ivo. After the death of the holder in January 1990, he took over the government of Santa Catarina. Short biography:

Casildo Joao Maldaner was born on April 2, 1942 in Carasinho, Rio Grande do Sul. He is the firstborn of nine children of Andreas and Erica Braum Maldaner. In 1972 he married Ivona Muldaner, with whom he had three children: Hossein, Jandry and Janiara. Joanne’s grandfather, Joaquim, Jessica, Emilia and Otto, received their Bachelor of Laws from Brasilia University. Brother of Federal MP and President of the State of Santa Catarina MDB Celso Maldanera.

He began his public life in 1962 as an advisor to the National Democratic Union (UDN) in Modelo, the West Santa Catarina mesoregion. The first politician from the Maldaner family campaigned on horseback and was eventually elected the councilor with the most votes, with 114 votes. After the parties ended in 1966, Casildo joined the MDB. The party led by Santa Catarina and of which he was honorary president until his death.

He was a member of the Santa Catarina Legislature in the 8th Legislature (1975-1979) and the 9th Legislature (1979-1983). He was a member of the Chamber of Deputies of the 47th Legislature (1983-1987). During his first term in Brasilia, he reached out to PMDB national leaders such as Ulysses Guimaraes, as his party’s first national executive secretary. He spearheaded the re-democratization process in Brazil, participating in the Diretas Já campaign and the election of Tancredo Neves. He acted under the influence of flags, always oriented towards reconciliation, understanding and prudence.

He was Lieutenant Governor of Santa Catarina, elected in 1986 from a roster headed by Pedro Ivo Campos (PMDB). After the death of Pedro Ivo in January 1990, he took over the leadership of the state’s executive branch, acting until March 1991. Without a mandate, Casildo became president of the PMDB in Santa Catarina.

He was elected Senator of the Republic and served from 1995 to 2003. In 2006, he was elected First Deputy Senator Raimundo Colombo (DEM-SC) PMDB. He was director of the Far South Regional Development Bank until January 2011, when Colombo resigned from his mandate to take over the Santa Catarina government and Maldaner took his Senate seat again.

Trajectory

He was born in 1962 in Carasinho, in Rio Grande do Sul. He began his public life as a counselor in the city of Modelu in the west of Santa Catarina. After that, already a member of the IDB, he was elected a state deputy for two terms (1975-1979 and 1979-1983), and then a federal deputy (1983-1987).

In 1986, on a tablet headed by Pedro Ivo Campos, he was elected lieutenant governor of the state. After the death of Pedro Ivo in 1990, he took over the executive branch of the state, ending his mandate in March 1991.

After that, he was elected Senator of the Republic (1995-2003). At the end of his term, he was appointed by then Governor Luis Enrique da Silveira to chair BRDE – the Regional Development Bank of the Far South, where he remained until 2011.

In 2006 he was elected as the first member of the Senate under the chairmanship of Raimundo Colombo. Following Colombo’s inauguration as governor in 2011, Maldaner took a seat in the Federal Senate, ending his term in 2014.
