Zelensky says Kyiv has not received enough weapons to “liberate Mariupol” and steps up call for help – Obozrevatel

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday told deputies in Malta that, despite their requests, Ukraine has not received the amount of weapons needed to lift the blockade of Mariupol and liberate the city. Zelensky told the defenders “Resistance at the Azovstal plant will continue”.

We use all possible diplomatic tools to save them, but Russia has not accepted any of the proposed options. We ask our partners to supply weapons in order to liberate Mariupol and save civilians and military,” he added.

However, he said during his video conference speech, the required number of weapons was not provided. Zelensky said that during the two and a half months of the invasion, 2,250 rockets were fired at the cities and other settlements of Ukraine. “The bombings don’t stop day or night,” he said.

The Kyiv leader also said that the Russian blockade of ports on the Black and Azov seas preventing the export of grain products and otherwhich will lead to a crisis in the food market on a global scale.

“If we cannot export wheat, barley, seeds, sunflower oil, then people in North Africa and Asia will be left without food, and prices will rise,” Zelensky said. “Later there may be new chaos and a new migration crisis, and I think they will feel this crisis in the neighboring regions of Malta”.

Russia launched a military offensive in Ukraine on Feb. 24 that has killed more than 3,000 civilians, according to the UN, which warns the real number is likely much higher.

The military offensive has caused more than 13 million people to flee, of which more than 5.5 million were outside the country, according to the latest UN figures.

The Russian invasion was condemned by the international community as a whole, which responded by sending weapons to Ukraine and increasing economic and political sanctions against Moscow.
